FORT COLLINS, Colo. -- A Colorado court reversed homicide convictions against two paramedics on Thursday in the 2019 death of Elijah McClain, who was pinned down by police and injected with a fatal dose of ketamine.
The Colorado Court of Appeals REVERSED the convictions of two former Aurora paramedics, who were convicted in December 2023 of criminally negligent homicide in the 2019 death of Elijah McClain, a 23-year-old unarmed Black man who was walking home from a convenience store.
The Administration: Aurora Fire Rescue paramedics Jeremy Cooper and Peter Cichuniec injected McClain with an excessive amount of ketamine, which was significantly higher than the recommended dosage for his body weight.
Prior to the injection, Aurora police officers forcefully stopped McClain, pinned him to the ground, and placed him in a neck hold. The paramedics administered the sedative under the assumption that McClain was suffering from "excited delirium" while he was being restrained by law enforcement.
In reversing these convictions, the judge ruled on Thursday that the cases of former paramedics Peter Cichuniec and Jeremy Cooper should be sent back to the district court for a possible retrial.
And I pray that that family will remain with the justice they have already received and deserve… and also that the re-trial will be denied 
But the big million dollar question is why is the justice system so broken? 🤔🤔🤔 if you did the crime do the time no matter who you are.
