Mission of Hope is a Christ-centered ministry serving the people, schools and communities of Southern Appalachia.

Many of the people we assist are caught in the pockets of poverty and as a result have lost all hope for their future. With your help and with God’s love we can help bring new hope to many.

Christmas is coming at Mission of Hope.

The warehouse is starting to fill up, and soon these toys and gifts will be headed to kids in the poorest counties of rural Appalachia. For a lot of these children, it's the brightest morning of their year.

There's a place for you in it. Sort toys in the warehouse, ride along on a delivery day, or give so a child gets a Christmas they'll remember. 90 cents of every dollar goes straight to the mission.

Our friends at Handfuls of Purpose, a ministry of Living Waters in Pine Mountain, Kentucky, are preparing to bless elderly and disabled individuals in their community this Christmas.

Their goal is to provide 200 Christmas shoeboxes and gift bags, filled with practical items, small gifts, and encouragement for those who might otherwise go without a Christmas gift.

Would you like to help? They're collecting items such as warm socks, gloves, hygiene products, puzzle books, devotionals, writing supplies, and other small gifts. You can also prepare a shoebox or make a monetary donation to help with the outreach.

We are thankful for ministries like Handfuls of Purpose that faithfully share Christ's love throughout Appalachia!

We loved having students from First Baptist Academy at Mission of Hope this week!

These students spent time in our warehouse helping pack hygiene supplies for our upcoming Christmas outreach. What a blessing to see young people giving their time to serve others!

Some of you met Alma this summer, when our truck pulled up to her pantry in Knott County, Kentucky. What we didn’t share then is what she was carrying while she served.

Alma was diagnosed with cancer right as COVID began. Through chemo and radiation, she kept giving food to her neighbors, and most of the people around her never knew.

“I don’t want nobody to feel sorry for me,” she told us. “I want people to know what God does.”

Today Alma is cancer free and still serving her community. We’re honored to stand beside her.

For as long as he can remember, Jeff Hall and the team at have stood with Mission of Hope. Jeff was the firm’s very first employee, nearly 25 years ago, and he’s watched this ministry grow from East Tennessee up through Appalachia and into Kentucky.

Faithful partners like Rather & Kittrell are a big reason we can keep showing up for kids and families across the region. Thank you, Jeff, and thank you to every business that walks alongside us.

When volunteers come together, anything can happen.

Every week, Bob Turney and a group of Mission of Hope volunteers ride the loop at Cades Cove. On this ride, Bob spotted something special up in the trees: a mother bear and her cubs. He stopped at a safe distance to snap a photo.

The friendships formed through serving don’t stop when the work is done. They keep going, mile after mile, and sometimes they lead to moments like this.

"We don't play for the prizes. We just play for a good cause and good fellowship."

Mark Moreland was Mission of Hope's first board chairman back in the early '90s, and he's played in our golf classic every year but one. He's watched this ministry grow from a handful of churches to scholarships for students at 18 high schools across Appalachia.

His advice for anyone wondering how to get involved? There's something for everyone, whether that's working in the warehouse, delivering toys at Christmas, or handing out backpacks. But in Mark's words, the golf tournament is "the easiest, most fun way you can help this cause."

Thank you, Mark, and thank you to every golfer who came out and braved the heat for the kids of Appalachia.
