BEGINNINGS
Cap the Gap for Foster Care in Sullivan County was founded in October, 1994, as an outgrowth of a Junior League of Kingsport project focused on helping to bridge the gap for children in foster care. Cap the Gap is a charitable 501(c)(3) organization, and all contributions to Cap the Gap are tax-deductible. Every dollar donated to Cap the Gap goes directly to meet the needs of a child; t

We envision a community where all children who have experienced a crisis of parenting have the opportunities and support they need to pursue their dreams and become productive members of our community. MISSION
Cap the Gap for Foster Care in Sullivan County works to promote the well-being of some of our county’s most vulnerable children. To close the gap between foster kids and their peers, we provide support and resources to them and to their foster families, helping to meet their basic material needs and working to provide social experiences they deserve to enable them to thrive and discover their own resilience and strength so that they may go on to live happy and productive lives.

💙 Cap the Gap – Sullivan County 💙

Every child deserves the chance to live out their dreams — to go on school trips, play sports, join activities, celebrate special moments, and feel like a normal kid. For many children in foster care, those opportunities aren’t always possible. Cap the Gap Sullivan County helps make those experiences happen by funding the things that bring joy, confidence, and memories that last a lifetime.

This program is all about coming together as a community to help fill the gaps and make sure these kids feel supported, valued, and cared for. Even small donations or acts of kindness can make a huge difference in a child’s life.

If you’re able to help, whether it’s donating, spreading the word, or getting involved locally, it truly matters more than you know. Let’s show these children that our community cares about them and wants to support them. 💙

❄️ Stay Warm This Weekend ❄️

Cold temperatures are expected this weekend—let’s take a few extra steps to stay safe and warm:
✔️ Dress in layers, including hats and gloves
✔️ Limit time outdoors and take warming breaks
✔️ Use space heaters safely and keep them away from furniture
✔️ Never leave children or pets in cold vehicles
✔️ Check on older adults, neighbors, and those who may need extra support

A little preparation helps keep our community safe and cozy 💙

Some people want to know what are some of the things that we do and how we help?

We were able to help a foster family who has a medically fragile child that needed a wagon stroller.

Cap the Gap was also able to help a little boy to pursue athletics and purchase baseball gear and attire.

These are just some of the things that Cap the Gap does. We want to see children thriving and having the things they need whenever they are in the midst of foster care.

Thank to the community and volunteers for sponsoring foster children in Sullivan county this holiday season! We were able to help close to 140 kids this Christmas and we couldn’t have done it without the community and their support.

Cap the Gap Foster Care Sullivan County was honored to be a part of the Night of Smiles at Bristol Motor Speedway. This night was a grant ceremony where Speedway Children’s Charities gives back to non profit organizations that are helping serve children in the area and to give money so we can keep doing what we are doing and to support the foster children in the area and make their dreams come true.
We are so thankful for this donation and cannot wait to see how it helps foster children in the area for the rest of 2025 and 2026!
