“Good afternoon this is Chuck Carter Director of schools in Sullivan County I wanted to let all families know that we are closely monitoring the current weather situation At this time, we are not dismissing school early because all students are safe inside our school buildings We have roadways in our area that are currently flooded that are preventing safe dismissal at this time If you as the parent or guardian feel that it is in your family's best interest to pick up your child from school there early dismissal will be excused No student drivers will be released to drive home We will continue to monitor roadways and will only release student drivers and buses when it is safe to do so Thank Thank you…”

All landline and mobile phone customers in east Tennessee will need to dial the area code + the 7-digit number (###-###-###X) for your call to go through, even if it is a local call. This is due to the areas that have the 423-area code running out of phone numbers. The areas in purple on the map will have two area codes starting in the coming weeks. The new area code is 729.

Phone customers who have an existing 423 area code, your area code will stay the same, however in the future if you get a new phone number it could be a 729-area code. The same will apply to those who do eventually end up with a 729-phone number, you will need to dial the area code plus the phone number for your call to go through.

Kingsport Resident-"Seems the City of Kingsport is planning to rip all our trees off Broad Street this fall!
I just found this statement by a code official on the Kingsport city Clickfix site.It was a response to a code request from the Lamplight Theatre about the trees interfering with their marquee. The entire post has been removed now.
BUT...
I'm very disturbed as there been no public announcements nor City requests for comments which I can find.

"The leaves are not causing the problem. However, the plan is for all trees to be removed on Broad St this fall as they have reached the end of their life expectancy."

KINGSPORT — A Kingsport police officer struck a pedestrian early Friday morning on East Center Street, according to a crash report obtained from the Sullivan County Sheriff's Office.

The crash happened around 5:28 a.m. Aug. 1. The report states Officer John Kaleb Carter was driving westbound in a city-owned patrol vehicle when he struck a pedestrian with the right front of his car.

The pedestrian, identified as Sharon Ramey, 74, was crossing the street outside of a designated crosswalk, the report states.

Carter told officers he did not see anyone standing in or crossing the roadway before the impact.

Ramey was taken to Holston Valley Medical Center with a possible head injury. The report lists her injury as "suspected serious injury."

The report states that Ramey said she did not see any vehicles coming as she crossed the street.

No violations were cited for the officer in the report
