The earliest record of the KMB participating in the area's Memorial Day observances is noted as 1943 in "Invincible Fidelity" by Art Pahr. They played at Eaton and Rockville Cemeteries before marching in the Kiel parade. The band still plays at Eaton and the Kiel parade every Memorial Day.

"There have been times when the KMB has marched in the rain. One New Holstein parade was such an occasion. It turned out to be a warm rain...Everyone got thoroughly soaked, and our wool uniforms smelled like 'wet dog' by the time we reached the city park. Every half block, one of the tuba players tipped his tuba over and poured out at least a pint of water each time, much to the enjoyment of the curbside crowd. Our only real concern during that parade was the few times that lightning filled the air.
