Superintendent Ed Tierney is pleased to announce Melanie Martinez as the new Principal of Stanley Switlik Elementary School.

Melanie joins the Marathon community after serving as an elementary principal in both Idaho and Washington, bringing 26 years of experience in education.

She holds a Master of Science in Educational Leadership from Western Governors University, as well as a Master of Science in Education, Curriculum and Instruction and a Bachelor in Elementary Education from the University of Idaho.

Melanie is known for being collaborative, organized, and deeply student centered in her decision making. She is excited to work alongside the students, staff, families, and the greater community as she begins this new chapter as a Dolphin.

"I am honored and excited to join Stanley Switlik Elementary School as principal," stated Martinez. "Throughout my career in education, I have been passionate about helping students grow academically, socially, and emotionally, and I look forward to becoming part of this wonderful school community."

This past Tuesday, many of our Sunrise Rotarians attended the memorial service for fellow Rotarian Vince Taporowski.

We were grateful to be there together to honor Vince, remember the impact he had on so many, and support those who loved him.

🌎 Talk about a full-circle story.

Amy O’Connor attended the Montessori Children’s School of Key West as a child, returned years later to Key West, and now serves as the school’s Executive Director. Her parents were among the school’s founding families, making her connection to the school truly generational.

📚 At our recent meeting, Amy shared why she believes diversity is essential to building empathy and preparing students to become thoughtful leaders in an increasingly connected world.

💡 Her message was a reminder that education isn’t just about academics. It’s also about helping young people develop the understanding, compassion, and perspective needed to make a positive impact in their communities and beyond.

👏 Thank you, Amy, for an inspiring presentation and for the work you and your team at The Children's School are doing for students in our community.

🌅 The Menendez Miler — 26 years strong and still fueled by pure Conch Pride!

For more than two decades, this beloved tradition has brought our community together, and every mile run helps support the Bobby Menendez Conch Pride Scholarship, funded through Sunset Rotary. Year after year, we, along with Mr. Menendez, are proud to award this scholarship alongside our Service Above Self scholarships, continuing Bobby’s legacy of heart, grit, and giving back.

A huge thank‑you to all the runners who showed up, pushed through, and medaled — your energy keeps this event alive. And special appreciation to the Southernmost Runners for sponsoring the run and standing with us in support of our students.

Always a day filled with Conch Pride, community spirit, and the kind of tradition that makes Key West who we are.

🌅 The Bobby Menendez Annual Miler kicked off in true Key West style — with a stunning sunset and a registration that felt more like a celebration.

Aboard the historic Coast Guard Cutter Ingham, family, friends, and new faces gathered to honor the man behind the mission. Stories flowed, laughter carried across the deck, and the spirit of Key West and Conch Pride wrapped around everyone in that gorgeous setting.

A perfect start to an event rooted in community, legacy, and island heart.
