A Christmas tree isn’t just for the living room.

Our Pheasants Forever chapter built a Christmas tree habitat shelter, put a wildlife camera on it, and waited to see who would move in.

The camera has already caught some pretty good visitors using the cover. It’s a simple example of how a pile of trees that might otherwise get hauled away can become valuable winter habitat for wildlife.

And apparently, the local wildlife got the memo: free shelter, no rent. 🎄

The count down is on to our 2nd Annual Hunting Heritage fundraiser. The menu will be selected at the end of the month, live auction, silent auction, raffle items and games of chance continue to be collected. Win or bid on some hunting related items, camping items and collectables. Items for ladies and youth included limited seating so get your tickets and join us for a fantastic event and some great food from CG Public House. If you’re looking for rattlesnake avoidance training for your dog this summer, here’s your chance!

Rattle Snake Avoidance Clinic
Friday, June 12 in Medical Lake, WA

The folks from Natural Solutions Training will be bringing a bunch of rattle snakes and training your dog to avoid them. The snakes are humanely muzzled so they can’t bite- but the dogs can see them move and smell real live rattle snakes. The dogs will also be taught to avoid rattlers by sound.

$95/dog, which I assure you is a small fraction of a vet bill for a snake bite.

To sign up, E-mail Ellen at [email protected]. You will be given a time slot, so we aim to get folks in and out within an hour. If you have a preference on time that day, please mention it in your E-mail and include a cell number. Cash or check on the day.

Fun fact- photo is of a Whitman county resident taken during hunting season.

Great volunteering opportunity!

WDFW needs your help to get some plants in the ground in Eastern Washington! We’re partnering with Pheasants Forever - Inland Empire Chapter on an upcoming riparian improvement project at the Swanson Lakes Wildlife Area southeast of Davenport. We need some volunteers to help plant 675 shrubs on Saturday, May 16. This critical project will improve habitat that was burned in the Whitney Fire of 2022. If the prospect of doing something good isn’t enough to get your (gloved) hands dirty, how about a free hot lunch? Pheasants Forever REALLY knows how to put on a spread. Unfortunately there were no photos available of that. For more information, and to sign up, go to https://wdfw.volunteermatters.org/project-catalog/109. And thank you in advance to all the volunteers that help us accomplish so much more than we could alone!
