We are inviting the community to attend a free Autism awareness event on Saturday, April 13, 2024, from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm at Benton Franklin Fairgrounds. Our Autism Journey – Better Together Event and Ceremonial Walk will be a journey through various interactive activities including some specially tailored to individuals with Autism. Planned activities include:
-Plenty of sensory-friendly fun su
ch as water table, corn grain table, play-doh station
-Ted Talk-like presentations
-Families affected by Autism may experience a reduced sense of isolation by being among similar families
-Event attendees will experience Autism awareness and education in a fun format
-Connect with local vendors and other service providers in the area
-Participate in a ceremonial and supportive 1/2 mile walk at 12:30 pm
**The walk and t-shirts are a fundraiser for the event. The number of individuals diagnosed with Autism in our area has tremendously increased; and with that, so has the need for resources and services for these families. Autism affects an estimated 1 in 36 children in the United States. Local families are often isolated as they navigate a complex system of diagnostics, treatments, therapies, and educational tools. This is the only event of this kind specific to the Autistic community in the Tri-Cities region.
