😢 💔 Oliver - October 21st, 2026 💔 😢
We are shocked and heartbroken to share the passing of our sweet Oliver. As you may know, Oliver went in for surgery today at WSU Vet Hospital to combat a persistent multi-antibiotic resistant infection. Given the shape of his leg (as we have mentioned Oliver had trouble walking), the vet did X-rays before starting his surgery. The results showed the joint cartilage was gone and the bones were rubbing together, degrading the bones. This all happened in the span of 7 weeks, since his last x-ray. His joint could no longer handle the staph infection. The joint damage was not repairable and there are no joint replacements for ducks. It would also be difficult to manage his pain, and our current approach was not enough. In addition, as his other leg was compensating, the good leg was also becoming damaged.
I want to thank those that donated towards Oliver’s surgery. The $100 raised will be put towards the cost of his x-ray.
I hope Oliver is now running free with Freddie and Brie. I’ll share more about Oliver in the near future. For now, I need to take some time to process his passing.
