Here's your yearly reminder for unsafe places to can!
Do not use these unsafe methods to can:
- Bathtubs
- Sun Canning
- Pressure Cookers
- Dishwashers
- Ovens/Microwaves
- Slow Cookers
- OR Volcanos as a heat source (we're just being silly)
When canning, use a pressure canner, steam canner or water-bath canner depending on the food you intend to preserve. Leading up to Father's Day, we celebrate Men's Health Week from June 15th - 19th and Wear Blue on June 14th! During Men's Health Week, we want to promote a safe, healthy lifestyle for men & boys! That includes getting an annual check-up with their health care provider, eating nutritiously, talking about their mental health, & more. The goal is to heighten the awareness of preventable health problems and encourage early detection and treatment of disease among men and boys. Find a list of recommended screenings here: getitcheckedpostermen.pdf.

“Recognizing and preventing men’s health problems is not just a man’s issue. Because of its impact on wives, mothers, daughters, and sisters, men’s health is truly a family issue.” - Congressman Bill Richardson

Kids already complaining about being bored? Try summer boredom boxes with keep them entertained with things you already have on hand.

Invention Box – If you have any, this box can put your hoarder tendencies to good use. Fill a box with springs, toilet paper rolls, wooden craft sticks, strings, paper clips, tape, empty plastic containers, and a small stapler. Challenge your child to create a new invention from just the items in the box.

Mr. Postman – Add paper, pencils, envelopes, and stickers. Make a card for grandma, write a letter to aunty Louise or their best friend. Be sure to have a stamp on hand so they can mail their card or letter.

Bug Collector – Use a bug collection kit you already have on hand or pick up a new one at Dollar Tree. Include a blank notebook for taking notes and drawing bugs they see. A magnifying glass, tweezers, and a book about bugs will finish off this box for budding entomologists.

Outdoor Fun – Add new items like sidewalk chalk, a jump rope, bubbles, water balloons or guns, and small sand toys. They will be excited to run outside and get to using them.

One of my greatest things that will make my eye twitch. Do not mess with the recipe, no additions, subtractions or substitutions, or winging it, and for goodness sake, use approved recipes (Ball Blue Book, National Center for Home Food Preservation are great resources). These recipes have been tested and approved for safety. So please cherish those old recipes from you mom, grandma, great-grandma, whoever, but please admire them only.

Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.

Thinking about tweaking a canning recipe? Be careful!
Approved canning recipes are tested for safety, and even small additions or deletions can change the processing time needed to make food safe. Ingredients that thicken a recipe or create a denser consistency can prevent heat from reaching all parts of the jar, increasing the risk of foodborne illness.

Want to add your favorite seasonings or special ingredients? Do it after opening the jar when reheating or serving. And remember—some recipes simply taste best when made fresh rather than canned.

For safe home canning, always follow tested recipes exactly as written. For questions related to home canning, contact your local OSU County Extension office.

🧵💙 Help Us Spread Comfort One Blanket at a Time! 💙🧵

The Creek County OHCE Family Enhancement Committee is launching a special community service project to create Fidget (Sensory) Blankets for individuals experiencing memory loss, dementia, autism, anxiety, or other sensory needs.

These blankets are designed to provide comfort, reduce anxiety, encourage movement, and offer meaningful sensory engagement. Filled with different textures, colors, and interactive items, they can bring comfort, spark memories, and create moments of connection for those who need it most.

✨ How You Can Help
We are collecting donations of:
• Fabric (cotton, fleece, textured fabrics, etc.)
• Buttons, ribbons, lace, and trim
• Zippers
• Empty spools
• Hair scrunchies
• Plastic measuring spoons
• Other safe sensory items that can be attached to a blanket

Donations can be dropped off at the Creek County OSU Extension Office
📍 17806 W Hwy 66, Kellyville, OK 74039

❤️ Know someone who could benefit from a sensory blanket?
If you have a loved one experiencing memory challenges, dementia, or limited verbal communication, we would be honored to make a blanket for them. Please contact Stacey Dawson (918-224-2192) or Connie Wilson.

Together, we can create something truly meaningful—bringing comfort, connection, and a little extra joy to those who need it most.

The Science of Journaling

Journaling isn't just writing — it's a way to actually understand what's going on in your head and express yourself. Words, doodles, whatever works for you. No rules, no grades. Journaling has real benefits for your mental health! People who journal can manage their stress better and can better understand their own emotions. Writing about our feelings can help with problem-solving and clarity. If you aren’t sure where to start, you can try one of these.

-Copy down lyrics or a quote and write about what it means to you

-Tell the story of a hard thing you got through

-Write about one person or thing that you are grateful for

-Draw how you are feeling. You don’t have to use words to use a journal.
