Serving the Deaf and Hard of Hearing communities in Southeast Michigan since 1973. As a pioneer in deaf services, DHIS is here to help.

As many as 10 percent of Michigan residents are deaf or hard of hearing, while about half of these individuals become so in their mid-sixties. DHIS is a formal 501(c) (3) nonprofit group. We rely on public and private funding programs, contributions from individuals and an outstanding network of volunteers, especially for our seniors program. Members of the deaf community as well as hard of hearing persons, serve on our Board of Directors.Today’s challenges include finding enough certified American Sign Language (ASL) interpreters for our client’s needs, making sure that interpreters are provided as required by law in public accommodation settings, and working with our senior population challenged by diminished hearing.

🩺💙 Health Fair for Deaf, Hard of Hearing & DeafBlind People!

Join the MI Coalition for Deaf, HH & DeafBlind People on Saturday, November 7, 2026, from 9:30 AM–4:30 PM at Madonna University in Livonia, MI for a day focused on health, wellness, education, and community!

The Health Fair will feature:
✨ Health screenings, including blood pressure, glucose, and HIV testing
✨ Educational presentations on nutrition, diabetes, mental health, and more
✨ ASL-interpreted presentations and real-time captioning (CART)
✨ Community resources, exhibitors, and vendor booths
✨ Food and refreshments available at Madonna's cafeteria
