As October comes to a close, shorter days, changing routines, and the approaching holiday season can bring a mix of emotions.

For some, this season feels joyful. For others, it may bring added stress, grief, loneliness, difficult memories, or financial pressure. However this time of year feels for you, your emotions are valid—and you are allowed to move through the season in the way that best supports your well-being. 💜

That may mean setting boundaries, simplifying traditions, making space for rest, connecting with supportive people, or asking for help when things feel heavy.

At the Center for Su***de Awareness, we meet people where they are. If you or someone you care about could use emotional support, our free, confidential HOPELINE™ is available 24/7.

🚓 Police and public safety agencies—creating opportunities to build trust and help calm tense moments.

🏠 Shelter care staff—supporting young people as they navigate difficult emotions and transitions.

🤝 YMCA locations and community resource centers—encouraging teamwork, belonging, and positive social interaction.

🎓 College wellness and sports performance partners—adding another resource for focus, connection, and wellbeing.

đź’ś Su***de prevention is something we practice in how we treat people every day.

It’s in the words we choose.
The moments we notice someone pulling away.
The way we respond when someone says, “I’m struggling.”
The decision to step away from gossip, bullying, or a hurtful comment—and speak up with compassion.

Awareness, education, and training matter. So does making sure our everyday actions reflect the care we encourage others to show.

We can disagree and still treat one another with dignity. We can listen without judging. We can make room for someone’s feelings without needing to fix everything.

Here’s a question worth carrying into every interaction: “Did I help this person feel heard, respected, and valued?”

That care matters online, at work, at home, and when nobody else is watching. đź’ś

If you need someone to listen, support is available for life’s challenges, big or small.

đź’ś What you see may be only the tip of the iceberg.

Behind “I’m fine” may be grief, stress, loneliness, exhaustion, or struggles someone hasn’t found the words to share.

Su***de prevention begins long before a crisis—with connection, care, and space to be honest.

đź’¬ Send the check-in text.
đź‘‚ Listen without rushing to fix.
🤝 Make the invitation.
đź’ś Keep showing up.

You don’t have to know exactly what to say to let someone know they matter. And you don’t have to wait for a crisis to ask for support yourself.

Connection can have a powerful impact on our mental health. Feeling like you belong, knowing someone cares, and being reminded that you are not alone can help protect against suicidal thoughts.

Connection does not always require having the perfect words. It can begin with a conversation, a thoughtful check-in, or simply being present with someone during a difficult moment.

This World Mental Health Day, the Center for Su***de Awareness and Text Line are coming together to remind our communities:

More Connection. Less Isolation. đź’ś

💜 A thought is not a fact—and it does not define who you are.

Intrusive thoughts can show up unexpectedly and feel upsetting, confusing, or hard to shake. Having an unwanted thought doesn’t mean you agree with it, want it to happen, or that it reflects your values.

When one shows up, give yourself a little compassion. You don’t have to solve every thought or judge yourself for having it.

Here are a few gentle reminders to keep nearby:

💜 Notice without judgment. Try saying, “I’m noticing an unwanted thought,” or “This is just a thought.”

🌊 Let it pass. You don’t have to debate it or force it away. Picture it moving through like a wave.

🌿 Ground yourself. Notice your feet on the floor, the sounds around you, or the feeling of something in your hands.

👟 Reconnect with an activity. Take a walk, create something, or spend time with someone you trust.

🤝 Seek support. If intrusive thoughts keep returning, cause distress, or interfere with daily life, a mental health professional can help.

Some days, these steps may feel easier than others. That’s okay. You deserve patience, compassion, and support along the way. You do not have to manage difficult moments alone.

💜 “I’m having a bad moment, not a bad life.”

When your mind won’t quiet down, everything feels heavy, or the things you usually enjoy feel out of reach, it can be hard to see beyond what you’re feeling right now.

Your feelings deserve care. You don’t have to force a positive outlook, have all the answers, or carry everything alone.

Try one small step: pause, take a breath, or tell someone you trust, “I’m having a hard time, and I could use some support.”

Whether this is a difficult moment or something you’ve been carrying for a while, you deserve someone who listens. 💜

Our free, confidential, 24/7 Emotional Support Text Line is here for you.

We don’t just pour drinks… we pour HOPE. 💜

We’re here in Wisconsin Dells at the Tavern League of Wisconsin convention, connecting with the owners, bartenders, and staff who help make our taverns places of community.

For more than 10 years, our partnership has brought su***de prevention education, mental health awareness, and practical resources into these everyday gathering places.

We affectionately call them “Uncertified Bartender Therapists”—the people who hear the stories, remember familiar faces, and notice when someone doesn’t seem like themselves.

Through our education and training, we help tavern staff recognize warning signs, approach difficult conversations with compassion, and connect someone who is struggling with support. They don’t need every answer to make a meaningful difference.

Our blog, “Meeting People Where They Are: Su***de Prevention in Wisconsin’s Tavern Community,” shares why this work matters and how this lasting partnership brings hope within reach.

There’s a reason we call it “Hunting the Good.” 💜

When we’re in the thick of it—feeling overwhelmed, hurting, or just trying to get through the day—the good can be hard to see. The difficult things can take up so much space that small moments of comfort or kindness slip past us.

That’s when we pause and really hunt. Look for it. Give yourself a moment to notice something good, because it’s there—even when it isn’t obvious.

Maybe it’s someone checking in. Your pet settling beside you. A song that makes you feel understood. A moment of laughter in an otherwise difficult day.

Finding those moments doesn’t erase what you’re going through. You can be hurting and still notice something good. Both can be true.

Today, take a moment to look. What’s one good thing you found? Share it below. 💜

Small steps can make a big impact. đź’ś

Taking care of your mental health doesn’t have to mean changing everything at once. Some days it might look like drinking a glass of water, stepping outside for a few minutes, putting on clean clothes, or listening to music that helps you feel like yourself. Other days, it might mean sending a text, spending time with your pet, or giving yourself permission to rest.

There’s no checklist you have to finish. Choose one small thing that feels possible today, and let that be enough. And if someone comes to mind while you’re reading this, reach out. A simple “How are you doing?” can open the door to connection.

What’s one small habit that helps you feel a little more grounded? Share it below—it might be just what someone else needs to hear. 💜
You matter. You are loved. You are not alone.

If you or someone you know is struggling, Text HOPELINE™ to 741741 for free, confidential support, 24/7.
