We love the hands-on example this team is using! Could this be coming to a class near you soon? 🧐

Strong communities grow when people have the opportunity to put down roots and build a future.

That idea is at the heart of Brennan Crawford’s work as Executive Director & CEO of Build WyCo. By bringing together housing, homeownership, financial resources and community engagement, Brennan is helping create more pathways for Wyandotte County residents to build stability and wealth.

We’re excited to celebrate Brennan as a 2026 Kauffman Uncommon Leader Visionary Award finalist.

After sitting blighted for years, the former UMB Bank tower in downtown Kansas City, Kansas, is set for a major transformation as part of a broader push to revitalize the area.

The seven-story, 100-year-old building will be converted into Build WyCo's new headquarters and apartments, including both market-rate and affordable units.

In housing and community development, a large part of the disability experience is often erased. 💔

We might think of things like ramps and ADA accessibility as "problem solved", but not things like air quality, the scarcity of physically accessible homes, proximity to healthcare, how disability benefits limit a person’s economic opportunities... the list goes on!

July is Disability Pride Month - and a great time to expand our thinking around these issues and learn how an accessibility mindset can benefit our broader community.

By getting to know the range and depth of disabled experiences, we can create more welcoming and full communities. 💗

That gets us closer to Build WyCo's vision - communities where every person can feel at home in a neighborhood they love.
