What a weekend. What a show. What a reminder of what’s possible when everyone belongs. 💫

As the curtain closes on Variety KC’s production of Oliver!, we’re filled with gratitude for every performer, family, volunteer, sponsor, creative team member, and audience member who made this year’s Variety Show unforgettable. 🎭🌟

Over the past few days, we witnessed so much more than incredible performances. We saw confidence grow, friendships flourish, barriers break down, and performers of ALL abilities shine on one of the nation’s most prestigious stages.

To everyone who laughed, cheered, volunteered, sponsored, performed, or simply showed up to support the Inclusion Revolution, thank you.

Meet Lucien, our Variety KC Child of the Week!! ❤️🎩

Lucien is a smart, curious little boy with a love for counting, the alphabet, music, and movement. Always on the go, he brings so much joy to everyone around him with his bright personality and eagerness to learn.

Lucien has Autism Spectrum Disorder and is mostly non-speaking. While he has some words, expressing his wants, needs, and feelings can often be frustrating. As he continues therapy and begins preschool, having the right tools to communicate is an important part of helping him thrive.

That’s why Variety KC was proud to provide Lucien with a communication device this summer! 🙌☀️

His AAC device gives Lucien a new way to express himself, share his thoughts, and connect with the people around him. It also helps reduce frustration while building confidence, independence, and meaningful communication at home, in therapy, and in the classroom. More than a device, it’s opening new opportunities for Lucien to be understood and participate more fully in the world around him.

Meet Emmett, our Variety KC Child of the Week!! ❤️🎩

Emmett is the sweetest little boy with a smile that lights up every room. He loves dinosaurs, playing outside, strumming his guitar, and he gives the best high-fives around! 🙌

Although doctors once believed Emmett would never walk, talk, care for himself, or develop his own personality, he has continued to prove that possibilities are endless. Today, Emmett is crawling, pulling to stand, cruising along furniture, climbing, feeding himself, throwing balls, and speaking in full sentences. His determination and resilience inspire everyone around him.

After trying an AmTryke during therapy, it quickly became one of Emmett’s favorite activities. Thanks to the support of Variety KC, he now has an AmTryke of his very own! With the freedom to ride every day, Emmett is building strength, confidence, and independence while enjoying the outdoors with his family and creating lasting memories alongside other children. 💫✨

Earlier this week, we celebrated the opening of the Variety KC Sensory Room at Starlight Theatre and we are overwhelmed by the amazing support from our community. 🙌

This space represents so much more than a room. It represents a commitment to inclusion, accessibility and ensuring that more families and individuals with sensory sensitivities can experience the magic of live theatre with confidence.

A heartfelt thank you to Starlight Theatre for partnering with us to bring this vision to life, and to our generous donors, sponsors, community partners and everyone who joined us to celebrate this milestone. Some partnerships go far beyond a donation and the Kansas City Mavericks are a perfect example.

For the second consecutive season, the Mavericks selected Variety KC as a Community Partner, demonstrating a continued commitment to making our community more inclusive for children and families of all abilities. 🙌💫

Over the past two years, more than 100 Variety KC families have stepped onto the ice through the Mavericks’ Adaptive Skate Schools, skating alongside players and creating memories that many never imagined possible. Families have also experienced unforgettable game days filled with ceremonial puck drops, behind-the-scenes meet-and-greets, and VIP experiences that made every child feel seen, celebrated, and included.

To the entire Kansas City Mavericks organization, thank you for believing in our mission and for showing that inclusion extends far beyond the rink. Your generosity, partnership, and heart continue to change lives, and we’re so grateful to have you on our team. ❤️
