Meet Emma, our Variety KC Child of the Week!! 🎩❤️

Emma lives with microcephaly, epilepsy, global developmental delays, and cortical visual impairment, yet her joy shines brighter than any diagnosis. Emma is always smiling, with a happiness that lights up every room she enters. Her positive spirit inspires everyone who knows her, and she never lets her challenges slow her down. ✨💫

While Emma’s wheelchair meets her needs at school, everyday life outside the classroom calls for something more flexible. Thanks to her new medical stroller, Emma is now able to comfortably and safely get out into the world she loves so much. The stroller provides the support she needs while allowing her to join her family on outings, explore new places, and stay active alongside them.

More than just equipment, the medical stroller gives Emma greater access to experiences, connection, and joy, ensuring she can continue being right in the middle of all the moments that matter most. 🙌

We’re excited to keep the momentum going as we bring this vision to life. Stay tuned—there’s so much more ahead! 🌟

THIS is Inclusion in action. ❤️🙌

Our Variety KC team had a wonderful visit to St. Paul’s Day School, where we shared stories, built meaningful connections, and brought inclusion to life. Students had the chance to meet Henry—one of our incredible Variety Kids and a star in our latest Variety Tales book, One Big Dream—and learned about his story. 📖✨

To top it all off, we were honored to receive a generous check for $1,319.27 from the school community! Your support helps us continue creating opportunities for kids of all abilities to thrive. 🎩💫

Moments like these remind us: inclusion isn’t just an idea, it’s something we create together.

Meet Gabriel, our Variety KC Child of the Week!! 🎩❤️

Gabriel is an amazing, joyful child who lives with autism and a mixed expressive and receptive language disorder. He works incredibly hard to communicate and connect with the people around him, especially during play and familiar routines. In therapy, Gabriel’s smile and giggle light up the room the moment he selects an icon on a communication device, a small action that carries enormous meaning. Until now, access to a device has been limited, making it difficult for his family to fully see the depth of his intelligence, personality, and joy outside of therapy sessions.

Through Variety KC, Gabriel received a communication device that will change the way he experiences the world. This device gives him the ability to express his thoughts spontaneously, to ask for what he needs, greet others, comment during play, ask and answer questions, and truly engage with peers and family in his everyday environment. 💬✨

This is more than just equipment. This device gives Gabriel a voice, one that allows his joy, curiosity, and intelligence to be heard loud and clear. 🙌

April 7th was a truly special day, as we teamed up with one of our amazing partners, , to present Josephine with her new eye-gaze communication device. ❤️✨

This new technology is going to unlock a whole new level of creativity and independence for Josephine.

Josephine, an eight-year-old with Rett Syndrome, has lost the ability to speak and use her hands. However, she communicates brilliantly using her “talker”, an eye-gaze device that allows her to select words and icons with her eyes. Until recently, this device was limited to communication, leaving many everyday experiences, like using apps, learning on an iPad, or playing games out of reach. She often had to watch from the sidelines as her peers engaged in these activities.

The EyeTuitive combines an eye-gaze camera with an iPad, allowing Josephine to interact with the screen using only her eyes. This breakthrough means she can now access educational apps at school, helping her keep pace academically with her classmates. At home and in therapy, it opens up a world of fun, exploration, and age-appropriate activities. 🙌🙌🙌

Josephine’s world is expanding beyond communication into learning, play, creativity, and connection. In her own words, when she learned her request had been granted, she smiled and said: “That is great. Phenomenal!”

Enjoy a video of her making music with her new technology for the first time and pictures from her gift presentation. 🎩💫

Today marks a defining moment for Kansas City.

This morning, Variety KC officially announced to the world the Ten Parks Project—a bold, $30 million commitment to create a network of fully inclusive, universally designed parks across our region. This initiative is about more than playgrounds. It’s about ensuring that children of all abilities can Be Active, Be Social, and truly BELONG! Without barriers. Without limits. 🙌

Through the Ten Parks Project, every family in the Kansas City metro area will be within 10 miles of an inclusive park.

We are proud to share that Roy Blunt Luminary Park will be the very first park in the Ten Parks Project, setting the standard for what inclusive play can and should look like, not just in Kansas City, but across the country. 🌎❤️

This vision would not be possible without the extraordinary leadership and generosity of Peter and Veronica Mallouk and the Mallouk Family Foundation. Their transformative investment is helping reimagine our city and ensuring that inclusion is built into its future from the very beginning. Because every child deserves a place to play and a place where they belong. ✨💫
