The Fellowship of Christian Athletes is impacting millions of lives across the world… one heart at a time. FCA's mission is "to lead every coach and athlete into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ and His church." Since 1954, FCA has encouraged coaches and athletes on the professional, collegiate, high school, junior high, and youth levels to use the powerful medium of athletics to impact the world for Jesus Christ.

"For this reason take up the full armor of God, so that you may be able to resist in the evil day, and having prepared everything, to take your stand." —Ephesians 6:13

Many athletes have a favorite shoe or piece of gear they rely on. It's part of how they get ready to compete.

Our spiritual lives have gear too. God provides it and we just need to put it on. Ephesians 6 lists a belt of truth, a breastplate of righteousness, shoes of readiness to share the gospel of peace, a shield of faith, a helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God.

Paul tells us to put on all of it so we can stand firm and not be defeated. It's a full set, not one shoe and one sock. Fully set. Fully covered. Fully prepared.

Losing is never fun. We compete to win, not to lose. One of the longest losing streaks in high school basketball history lasted more than six years straight, an entire era of athletes playing without a single win. Rarely does anyone view losing as something good.

Jesus made a profound statement about winning and losing that speaks to the deepest reality of eternal life.

"Then Jesus said to his disciples, 'If anyone wants to follow after me, let him deny himself, take up his cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life because of me will find it.'" —Matthew 16:24-25

If someone wants eternal life, they must first lay down their own life for His sake. Trying to earn eternal life through your own effort leads to the ultimate loss. But losing your life now, surrendered to Jesus, means finding real life, both here and for all eternity. That's the biggest win there is.

"Let us not get tired of doing good, for we will reap at the proper time if we don't give up." —Galatians 6:9

A basketball player who shoots 10,000+ shots over a summer will improve, but most players never put in that kind of effort because it's hard.

The spiritual life works the same way. No one is handed a mature faith the moment they follow Jesus. It takes effort to learn how to pray, study Scripture and walk in obedience, and it's not something we ever graduate from this side of heaven.

We're often quick to put in effort toward our competitive life. Let's be just as quick to put in effort toward our spiritual one. 🙌

LeBron James holds the NBA record for consecutive All-Star selections, and Michael Jordan averaged over 30 points a game across 14 All-Star appearances. Both built that kind of consistency through years of hard work and commitment. 🏀

As athletes we notice all-stars, and we're noticed too. Coaches, teammates, fans and even opponents watch how we act and play, and the higher the level, the more eyes are on us.

"From the time that he put him in charge of his household and of all that he owned, the LORD blessed the Egyptian's house because of Joseph. The LORD's blessing was on all that he owned, in his house and in his fields." —Genesis 39:5

Joseph chose integrity from a young age, believing the best way to live was obedience to God. His hard work and honesty earned him the trust of Potiphar, who eventually put him in charge of everything. More importantly, God noticed how Joseph lived, and blessed Potiphar's house because of him.

The Lord God is always looking for those who choose to live like Joseph. Who is around you that can help you live that way?

Scoring a run in baseball is simple: touch all four bases. During a game, a player hit what looked like a home run, but while watching the ball sail over the wall he missed touching first base. The play was reviewed, and the run didn't count.

God speaks through the Bible to give clear instruction for living a godly life. In the days of Moses He gave the Ten Commandments so people would know exactly how to live.

Jesus didn't come to erase the commands, He came to fulfill them, then gave His life for us because we couldn't. When asked which command was greatest, He pointed to the foundation beneath them all: love God with everything you have, and love your neighbor as yourself.

Summer has ended and new seasons have started. New teams, new coaches, new plays to learn, new friends and teammates. It's an exciting time, but it's also worth remembering who you are in the middle of it all.

As you step into something new, remember who Jesus is too. He is loving, merciful and faithful, and that never changes with the season.

His love and mercy follow you every morning, every day. Whatever's new this fall, He's already there with you. 🍂❤️

"Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Because of his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead and into an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled and unfading, kept in heaven for you." —1 Peter 1:3-4

Imagine a family member left you an invaluable inheritance: season tickets to your favorite team for life. Incredible seats, meet and greets, unlimited merch, the whole package for life. A gift like that would change how you live, showing up on gameday, bringing friends and family along and telling everyone the story of who gave it to you.

God has left us something far greater: an imperishable, undefiled and unfading inheritance kept in heaven for us, bought at great price and sacrifice. It includes salvation from sin, a home with the Father forever, a new heavenly body and the Holy Spirit to lead us here on earth. No season tickets could compete with that.

For more than two decades, John Taylor has been shaping young lives at Lincoln-Way Central High School in New Lenox, Illinois, as a teacher, cross country coach and leader of a long-standing FCA Huddle. It all started around 2000 when a few students asked him to start a Bible study, which eventually grew into an official FCA Huddle.

FCA Representative Sue Crawford, who has worked alongside John for years, says his quiet, consistent faith has made a lasting impact. "He doesn't jump in and tell them they're doing something right or wrong," she said. "He walks alongside them."

That kind of discipleship has produced a remarkable legacy, including former students who are now pastors, missionaries and Navy chaplains.

A softball team is playing a game, joking around in the dugout with no real intensity. Then an opposing fan section shows up, loud and rowdy, cheering hard for the other team. As the energy builds, the team's mood shifts from annoyed to determined, and their play transforms along with it. Once they realize they have real opposition, they're suddenly focused, engaged and playing with grit.

We live and play differently once we realize we have an enemy. Knowing who's supporting us and who's against us changes everything about how we show up.

God has chosen us for His team. He cheers for us and supports us every step of the way. Satan is the real enemy, working against us from the sidelines of our lives. When we recognize that, we stop playing distracted and start living with the same focus and determination that team found on the field.
