An unexpected visitor stopped by to supervise my work today. Under his watchful eye, the monument of Eliza Smith Nichols who passed in February 1888 was reset as requested by her great granddaughter. Next, the monument for Eliza’s “neighbor”Washington Stickney was leveled. Mr. Stickney served as a Civil War Chaplin, 2nd NY Mounted Rifles and passed in February 1883.

Wonderful Memorial Day remembrance service at Elmwood Cemetery Society. Flag raising by the East H.S. ROTC honor guard. Followed by multi denominational service in the historic Armour Memorial Chapel. 🇺🇸

Visited one of the most beautiful cemeteries in the country in Cleveland, OH. The grounds are absolutely stunning ! Also paid respects to our 20th President James A. Garfield who is entombed with his wife, Lucretia in the Garfield Memorial on-site. Garfield who was assassinated while in office, was the subject of the Netflix series, “ Death by Lightning “, based upon the book “Destiny of the Republic” written by Candice Millard. Both tell the fascinating, yet little known story of a great man whose life was cut tragically short.

Welcome back Captain John W. Turney. Captain Turney was only 20 years old when killed in a skirmish defending Plattsburg, MO during the Civil War on July 21, 1864. Thanks to the good work of a local volunteer, Terry Wood a new base was crafted, and we reset the toppled obelisk of the Captain today…just in time for Memorial Day.

Really wish I could find and preserve the remainder of this unknown young boy’s tablet. “ This little boy was good to his mother and is reaping his reward in Heaven”. Maybe in 2026.
While doing some end of season work and adding festive holiday greenery, Mrs. KC Cemetery Man did yeomen work in cleaning and prepping her amazing wildflower area for Spring 2026.
