Virtually every stone I touched today read “Gone but not Forgotten“. Rest assured that’s always the case, even on days where its blistering hot 🥵
Reset a couple fractured tablets, but focused more on cleaning given the conditions. Come on Fall 🍁
Loved the solitude of Enon Cemetery near Excelsior Springs, MO.

Delighted to have been joined by my great niece and aspiring cemeterian Kaitlyn Calvert at Greenwick Cemetery. Since she lives in Phoenix, this was the first time she was introduced to her 4x Great Grandfather, William Jordan. Next, she helped me reset a tablet for Matilda Peery and clean a tablet. It was an unforgettable day.

Crossed over a single lane wooden bridge on my way to Upper Neely Cemetery(est. 1845). Virtually all of today’s cleaning workshop attendees were direct descendants. Even heard some fascinating tales about a man named Jesse James who allegedly frequented the area.

What a turnout for our workshop at the Antioch Cemetery today. We had (30) volunteers representing (9) cemeteries join us to learn and network. As an added bonus, the weather was spectacular. Special thanks to the cemetery board for getting the word out and the exceptional coordination for the event.

Deep in the woods lies the long forgotten Hinkson Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. Members of the local CoMo Preservation, Genealogy Societies of Boone County & Central Missouri escorted me back to this remarkable site. Approximately (15) markers have been discovered dating back to at least 1839.
Separately, I’ll be partnering with this amazing team of dedicated volunteers to conduct a presentation and hands-on workshop next Spring. This will be part of a major cemetery preservation event….details to follow.

Congratulations to KC Cemetery Man, Kurt Jordan, on receiving the Award of Merit at the 2026 MoSGA Annual Conference for his outstanding contributions to Missouri cemetery preservation.

"Kurt Jordan cleans and repairs gravestones for the pleasure of giving back to the community and recognizing those who have gone before us. Seven years ago, Kurt helped his father clean and repair a family stone in Greenwick Cemetery in Andrew County, Missouri. Over the next few years, Kurt not only repaired all of the headstones in that cemetery, he partnered with local genealogists and the cemetery board to tell the stories of the families buried there. QR codes next to each headstone lead to a website giving names, families, and stories of that person.
Kurt received training on best practices of stone cleaning, and has gone on to lead community classes on how to clean gravestones, providing the materials free of charge. In fact, Kurt has never charged a fee or taken any donation for his work. He always says that he has been blessed in his life and this is one way he gives back. Greenwick Cemetery can be found in Amazonia, Andrew County, Missouri. "Sarah Catherine (Wheeler) Lang (1853-1886) is the only known member of her family to be buried in Greenwick Cemetery. Born and raised in Iowa, she was married in Polk County, Iowa at the age of 16, with the permission of her father, Archibald Wheeler, to William Lang (1849-1915). Sarah had previously been married at the age of 15 (also in Polk County, Iowa) to Patrick Rady.
