Next Tuesday, we will celebrate the 251st Birthday of the U.S. Navy!

On October 13, 1775, America’s Continental Congress passed a resolution to establish the present-day U.S. Navy with a “swift sailing vessel to carry ten carriage guns and a proportionable number of swivels, with eighty men.”

After the American Revolution, the new Congress acted on the power of the U.S. Constitution “to provide and maintain a navy.”

Some 22 years later, on April 30, 1798, Congress officially established the Department of the Navy.

FIVE YEARS OF SERVING THOSE WHO SERVE!

This past Wednesday, Fisher House Kansas City celebrated five incredible years with a special Anniversary Open House!

We are grateful to everyone who joined us to celebrate this milestone and the mission that brings us together: providing a home away from home for military and veteran families while their loved ones receive medical care.

A special thank you to the Daughters of the American Revolution for generously providing refreshments for our Open House and returning later to prepare a wonderful dinner for our residents. Your kindness and continued support mean so much to the families we serve.

Here's to five years of hospitality, compassion and community—and many more to come!

Q: How many people can stay in a room?
A: Rooming details: Each Veteran’s family can have one room at FHKC, and up to four people can stay in that room—so everyone stays together.

The United States Military Academy has more than 4,000 cadets on campus every year, and each of them participates in some form of athletic competition.

They either play on one of the 28 National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I teams, on a club team, or compete in intramural sports called company athletics.

“The culture of our academy is that every cadet is an athlete,” said Col. Nick Gist, USMA physical education department head. “[These challenging environments] help define our program as more than just sport; it’s a character-building program.”
