Help us congratulate Samantha Woodmaster on her new certification as a Teen Mental Health First Aid Instructor. Sam was granted the money for the cost of this training by the AFSP Illinois Chapter. Last week, Natalie and Sam participated in Kankakee High School’s college and career fair!

Not only did they get to talk to the students about the services we currently provide but they got to explain how there is now an alternative pathway into the mental health workforce. Best practice continues to increase the presence of peers in the mental health system of care. Being a peer means you have lived experience of either your own or a loved one’s mental health journey. Peers are proof that recovery is possible, when one feels validated and supported in their experience.

Project SUN is proud to be an organization that values peers and their contributions to improving the mental health system of care!

Back in September, people from across the community told us what's working and what's missing in children's mental health across Kankakee and Iroquois Counties. Our board and staff have been hard at work turning that input into a strategic plan — and before we finalize it, we want you to see it and tell us what you think.

Here's how it works: stop by whenever it fits your day, even for 15 minutes. You'll find interactive boards laying out the goals and ideas we've developed so far. Add your notes, write down what's missing, and use voting dots to show us what matters most to you. You'll also get to meet the staff and board members behind the work.

Light refreshments provided. Kids are welcome. Raffle giveaways!

NAMI Illinois put on a great conference… “Bridging Gaps by Reimagining Community Care”

Anne and Sam were grateful for time to step back and learn from so many amazing peers in the mental health field. Meanwhile, Sarah was there presenting with fellow Family Run Organization (FROs) leaders to teach attendees all about the important work being done to ensure families voices are heard as they support young people on a mental health journey.

Caregivers!
There's still time to register for next week's Caregiver Craft Club, where we will be painting rocks to look like pumpkins. We hope to see you there! If you have any questions, feel free to reach out.

Our Caregiver & Kids Craft Club on Monday was a great chance for kids to use their fine motor skills to create beaded pumpkins. We also hosted our first Caregiver & Teens Craft Club and had 5 participants! Thank you to everyone who attended, and we hope to see you again next month! 🎃 👻 🍂
