The Jurupa District Lions club primarily supports the citizens of the City of Jurupa Valley through various philanthropic projects. A few facts about the Jurupa District Lions.
- Contributed more than $40,000 in scholarships to Jurupa Unified District High School students over the past 15 years.
- Partnered with the Rotary Club of Jurupa Valley and jointly raised over $120,000 over the past 12 y
ears for local services (high school scholarships, multiple exchange group sponsorship's, student awards, leadership training camps, spelling bees, and polio related activities)
- JUSD Food Drive – Jurupa Lions support the annual Christmas Jurupa Unified School District Food drive by feeding the volunteers, the majority of which are middle and high school students. Lions club members also volunteer during the food drive each year.
- Supports Local School Clubs – Each year the Jurupa District Lions club supports various school clubs - Future Farmers of America, Academic Decathlon, National Honor Society, California Scholarship Federation, ROTC, ASB. Support of these clubs is through monetary contributions as well as opportunities for car washes, bake sales, and yard sales.
- Local Events – Over the past three years, the Jurupa District Lions club has instituted several events in the name of community outreach. These events have provided members of the community, both adults and youth, with an opportunity to get to know their neighbors, both at low cost and in a safe environment.
- In 2012 members planted over 100 trees in the Jurupa Valley community in support of International President Wing-Kun Tam goal of planting 1 Million trees worldwide. Lions clubs around the world exceeded this goal and planted over 8 Million trees worldwide.
- Jurupa Valley Relay for Life – American Cancer Society relay
- Supports the following charitable organizations through annual contributions and volunteering support. o Rose Parade Float – members volunteer their time decorating the Lions Club International Float each year. o Guide Dogs of the Desert – raises and trains service dogs for the visually impaired. o Lions Student Speech Foundation – provides scholarships to speech contest winners. Jurupa District Lions also provides a speech contest venue for local students from the 3 high schools in Jurupa Unified. o Teresita Pines – Group camping site specializing in the needs of disabled youth. o Student Foreign Exchange – provides assistance and host families for summer exchange students. o City of Hope – cancer research
o Friends in Sight – provides free eye clinics and free recycled eyeglasses. The Jurupa District Lions started an eyeglass recycling program in 2011 to support this organization. Over the past years, Jurupa District Lions club members, with the help of local citizens and business, collected over 5000 pair of glasses respectively. Friends in Sight provides free eye clinics throughout Southern California and Baja California. The group also provides free eye glasses to those patients that need them. If there is no recycled pair available, the group will pay for a new pair of glasses for the individual.
