To the casual passerby, or even to our local community, our building might look like just another ordinary storefront in town. Because our fraternity values steady labor over public noise, our deep 154-year history is woven into the fabric of Johnson County, focused more on daily neighborly duty than public applause.

But to a Freemason, this 90-year-old room represents a comfortable, lived-in space for honest self-examination.

Our Lodge room is built on decades of tradition, designed as a welcoming sanctuary from the frantic pace and daily noise of the modern world. The Hidden Measure of the Universe 🏛️📐

Look closely at the Masonic emblem on our banner pictured here, and you will see the letter "G" at its center. In 1775, the Masonic scholar William Hutchinson published The Spirit of Masonry, writing beautifully about how this significant letter denotes Geometry—a science whose usefulness extends to almost every art and science.

Through it, astronomers map the motions of the stars, geographers chart the oceans, and architects derive their perfect proportions. But to a Freemason, Geometry is more than a tool for measurement—it is a pathway to understanding the symmetry and order of the creation.

This is why the Square is held by Masons as one of the Great Lights of our fraternity. Historically, the square was the fundamental unit used to measure all surfaces. In speculative Masonry, it serves a higher purpose. It is the symbolic tool we use to measure our actions, align our character, and keep our lives in proper proportion with our duty to God, our families, and our neighbors.

Ancient Truth in an Age of Noise 🏛️📜

The weathered volumes pictured here remind us of a pivotal era. In 1854, a prominent author named Augustus Arnold published A Philosophical History of Free-masonry. Writing during a massive explosion of printed media driven by the industrial printing press, Arnold observed a fast-paced world suddenly filled with information, distractions, and constant noise.

In Chapter XIX, he focused heavily on the true mission of our fraternity. Arnold argued that Freemasonry’s highest purpose is the active moral, intellectual, and social progress of its members. He emphasized that the Lodge is meant to be a quiet sanctuary of higher learning—a place where men intentionally study timeless moral sciences to refine their character and better serve their families.

Fast forward over 170 years to modern Johnson County. Today's men face a very similar challenge. We are flooded with shallow digital connections and constant notifications, yet many feel a deep hunger for real-world substance, personal growth, and authentic brotherhood.

Why does family matter in Masonry?

Because becoming a better Mason should also mean becoming a better man—and that should show up at home.

Throughout history, Masonry has taught men lessons about character, responsibility, integrity, patience, service, and how we should conduct ourselves as husbands, fathers, and members of our communities. This isn't something new. It's part of the work.

There is something special about breaking bread amongst family and friends.

Sitting around a table, sharing a meal, talking, laughing, and getting to know one another outside the lodge reminds us that Masonry has never been meant to exist only inside the lodge room.

The real test of what we learn in the lodge isn't just what happens within those four walls. It's how we live those lessons every day—especially with the people who know us best.

Being a Mason doesn't automatically make you a better father, husband, or man.

The work we put into ourselves does.

When our families see us striving to live those principles, they become part of that journey too.

Better men make better fathers. Better fathers build stronger families. And strong families build stronger communities.

Looking ahead to next week, the Brothers of Caddo Grove Lodge #352 are gathering for our monthly Stated Meeting. We want to give our members and our entire community plenty of time to clear their schedules.

🍽️ Monday at 6:30 PM – Stated Dinner (OPEN TO ANYBODY):
Our doors are wide open! Whether you are a local neighbor wanting to say hello, a family new to the area, a wife wanting to meet local folks, or a man curious about our 600-year history—ANYBODY is welcome to join us for a full dinner at 6:30 PM. The meal is completely free, open to the public, and the absolute best way to break bread and get to know us.

Following dinner, our gavel falls and the lodge doors close to the public at 7:30 PM as our members step inside to conduct official business and continue guarding our 154-year-old Texas legacy.
