600 Years of Fraternity. 154 Years in Joshua. One Rare Tradition. 🌙🏛️

Freemasonry is a fraternity with over 600 years of recorded history, built on timeless principles of character, integrity, and relief. Here in Joshua, Texas, Caddo Grove Lodge #352 has faithfully guarded that enduring global legacy.

We owe an immense debt of gratitude to those forefathers who anchored our fraternity for centuries. Thanks to the steady use of those traditions, we are proud to be one of the relatively few lodges left in the modern world that still strictly observes a rare historic tradition: we are a "Moon Lodge."

This practice stretches all the way back to the mid-1600s in England, where provincial lodges first began gathering "on or before the full moon" out of sheer necessity. In the 1800s, long before paved roads, streetlights, or cars arrived in Johnson County, traveling at night was dangerous. To ensure Brothers could navigate the dark Texas countryside safely by horseback or buggy, our meetings were scheduled based on the lunar calendar—meeting on the Monday on or before the full moon so the night sky could light the way home to their families.

While thousands of lodges worldwide have modernized their calendars to fixed days of the month, Caddo Grove chose to preserve this connection to our past.

Every great legacy requires continuity. Today, we are looking for the next generation of men—fathers, husbands, and young men of character who take pride in their work and want to stand tall alongside us to keep this historic tradition alive for the next century.

Passing the Torch at Caddo Grove Lodge #352 🏛️

Since 1872, our Lodge has stood as a cornerstone of brotherhood in Joshua, Texas. For over 150 years, generations of Johnson County men have faithfully guarded our traditions, supported our community, and kept our lights burning bright.

We owe an immense debt of gratitude to the dedicated brothers who have anchored this Lodge for decades. Because of their steady leadership, Caddo Grove remains a place of stability, fellowship, and timeless values.

Had a good time at the Godley Chamber of Commerce luncheon today. Met some good people from the community and learned a little but about Godley ISD. Had a few thanks given to us for our Scholarship too. :)

A Look Back: The Regius Manuscript

Did you know that one of the oldest known documents dealing with Masonry is the Regius Manuscript, also known as the Regius Poem?

Written in Middle English sometime around the late 14th or early 15th century, the manuscript contains 794 lines of poetry concerning the craft of masonry. Today it is held by the British Library.

What makes it especially interesting to Masons today is that much of the document isn't about building with stone—it is about how a Mason should conduct himself.

It contains:
• A legendary history of Geometry and Masonry
• Fifteen Articles for the Master
• Fifteen Points for the Craftsmen
• Rules concerning assemblies and the Craft
• The story of the Four Crowned Martyrs
• Guidance on behavior in church and in society

In other words, nearly 600 years ago, Masonry was already putting considerable emphasis on something we still recognize today:

The work of a Mason is not only what he builds, but the man he builds himself to be.

The language may have changed. The tools may have changed. But the importance of character, conduct, brotherhood, and living by moral principles remains remarkably familiar.

Brother Ronnie Davis laid down his working tools on Friday, July 31, 2026. Today, Caddo Grove Lodge #352 consigned the body of our Brother to the earth and commended his spirit to the God who gave it.

Brother Davis was a Mason following in the footsteps of his father. Ronnie received his 50-year Service Pin just ten days before his passing, sometimes the Great Architect patiently awaits the call. Brother Davis was a true man, married for 55 years to his beautiful wife Jan, leaving 3 daughters, 7 grand-children and 2 great-grand-children. A man of faith and regular member of his church for 49 years, ‘You will come to the grave in full vigor, like sheaves gathered in season’ (Job 5:26). May the Blessings of Heaven rest upon him. Bother Davis you will be forever missed, S.M.I.B.
