🎉 Celebrating the Legacy of F. Roy Greenleaf Jr. 🎓🌵
Today, we celebrate the birthday of F. Roy Greenleaf Jr., whose vision and generosity continue to change lives across the Morongo Basin.
Although Mr. Greenleaf passed away in 1996, his legacy lives on through the Greenleaf Scholars of the past three decades—students whose lives and futures have been transformed by his belief in the power of education and community.
Since 2002, the Copper Mountain College Foundation has selected a new Greenleaf Scholar each year to receive a four-year “full ride” scholarship. The scholarship, endowed by local banker F. Roy Greenleaf Jr., covers the cost of an associate degree at Copper Mountain College and a bachelor’s degree at a UC or CSU. 🎓
But Mr. Greenleaf’s vision was about more than academics or financial need. He believed that “average” students deserve an equal chance. His scholarship is designed for students who have a desire to succeed, care for their families, classmates and neighbors, and ultimately return to the Morongo Basin to give back to the community they call home. ❤️
The only criteria? The student must reside in the Morongo Basin and want to return to our community after earning their degree.
Three decades later, we can see the impact of that vision in the faces of today’s students—and in the many Greenleaf Scholars who came before them.
Happy Birthday, Mr. Greenleaf. 🎂 Your legacy is still growing, one student, one degree and one community at a time. 🌵💚
