Cambria Memory Project The Cambria Memory Project is made possible by a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities

Families Forever: The Cambria Memory Project is made possible by a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities. The purpose of the project is to ensure that the history of the people of Cambria County is captured and shared. These stories will contribute to the larger discussions of immigration and how it impacted the history of the region and the United States. Residents will be able to

bring pieces of family history to one of several open digitization events. At these events, all materials will be digitized to be included in a statewide database and ultimately, the Digital Public Library of America.

In June, the PA House of Representatives passed House Resolution 275 designating September as International Underground Railroad Month in Pennsylvania! Did you know there are two recognized Underground Railroad sites in Cambria County? One is a PHMC marker in Geistown which commemorates the Escape of Freedom Seekers Patrick and Abraham, and the other is a National Network to Freedom sign in Sandyvale Memorial Park that recognizes the abolitionists that were interred there. Stop by and check these out this month!

September is Library Card Month

Did you know you can get a library card at the community college to check out books? There is no cost for the card, and we have a great collection of interesting titles. When you stop in, you can also check out our local history and genealogy room and learn about some of the other resources available. So sometime this month, stop in a get a card!
