Thank you to all of our amazing paraprofessionals.

Paraprofessional Appreciation Day is observed annually on the first Wednesday of April. It honors paraprofessional educators, who may also be known as paras, instructional assistants, or teacher aides. Paraprofessionals perform a variety of teaching-related jobs and often assist teachers in classrooms.

Paras may work with students on supplemental enrichment activities, either in small groups or one-on-one. They may also help students complete assignments or practice reading. Paraprofessionals often work with students with special education needs and a variety of disabilities. They may also supervise students outside the classroom and assist teachers with clerical work.

Paraprofessionals work tirelessly each day to support students & teachers, so today we honor them for their service.

A portion of ISEA President Joshua Brown's response to the 2026 Iowa Condition of the State:

"Continuing to prioritize private school vouchers and exploring unsustainable changes to local property taxes, combined with below minimum funding, serve only a fraction of Iowa families. We need to approach change through the lens of what benefits the many, not just the few."

"The Iowa State Education Association Educator Bill of Rights offers a different path. It is a roadmap to success for students, schools, and communities across Iowa. Increasing school funding, codifying essential rights such as manageable workloads, fair and competitive compensation, and safe and supportive learning environments for every student, regardless of ZIP code, ensures that our schools retain the highly qualified experts our children deserve, placing students at the center of everything they do." - Joshua Brown, ISEA President

Today, ISEA President Joshua Brown proudly launches our campaign championing the ISEA Educator Bill of Rights, because Iowa educators deserve unwavering support, essential resources, and the professional autonomy to empower every student’s success.
