The Johnston Arts Council and the Des Moines Area Regional Transit Authority (DART) are thrilled to announce the opening of a new DART Art Shelter in Johnston on Monday, July 15, at 5:00 p.m. The shelter is located at 6200 Merle Hay Road (in front of Walgreens).

The Johnston Art Shelter is part of a larger effort by DART to improve transit accessibility and enhance the rider experience by incorporating public art into more than 50 bus shelters throughout its service area. Art shelters have already been installed in the Drake neighborhood, 6th Avenue Corridor, Roosevelt Cultural District of Des Moines, and the City of Ankeny.

We look forward to seeing you all this Sunday, August 28, from 2-4 p.m. at the Town Center for our Birthday Celebration! One year at the Town Center has flown by. Thank you to everyone who has visited and supported events at The Yard this year. We want to celebrate with an afternoon of free cookies sponsored by Hy-Vee! Every attendee will receive one free cookie at the concessions building (while supplies last). There will also be sidewalk chalk, three pickleball courts, inflatables, yard games and more! A local caricature artist will be there drawing quick (3-4 minute) free sketches. There will only be one artist, so it will be first come, first serve. Not everyone will receive a caricature. We can't wait to see everyone for an afternoon of family fun!
