This is Olivia.

A lot of people know Havok.

Some know Mayhem.

But long before the younger dogs… there was this girl.

The quiet one that helped shape so much of what came after her.

The kind of dog that never asked for attention… just stayed close, stayed steady, and somehow became part of the foundation without anyone realizing it at the time.

A lot of what Hiatus K9 is today traces back to her.

And one day, the younger dogs people admire will be somebody’s “Olivia” too.

That’s the part people don’t always see.

People see a well-trained dog.

What they don’t always see… is the reason.

The panic attack interrupted.
The nightmare disrupted.
The moment someone decided to stay because they weren’t completely alone.

Sometimes the work looks like this.

Quiet. Present. Unnoticed.

But for someone fighting battles nobody can see…
that quiet presence becomes a lifeline and a reason to stay. 🐾

Been a good reminder this week that the work is not just obedience.

Anybody can make a dog look good for 30 seconds.

The real work is neutrality. Settling. Existing in busy places without reacting to everything around them.

New environment, different hotel, noise, people, movement… and still able to just be.

That matters when these dogs are going to veterans and first responders who need consistency, not chaos.

The standard has to stay high.

People see the intensity.

The drive.
The speed.
The focus.

What they don’t always see is the off switch.

The quiet moments.
The calm beside the chaos.( hahah Havok is beside Chaos)

The dog that can go from working to simply laying at your feet without needing the world to revolve around them.

That balance matters.

Because the goal was never just a dog that performs.
The goal is a dog someone can live life with.

People see a dog laying under a chair in a casino and probably think…

“So what?”

But what people don’t see is what I see.

Tonight we were in a busy part of another hotel waiting for a massage. Loud. Crowded. Constant movement. A guy walked by with a little Pomeranian in a service dog vest barking and pulling at the leash towards Havok.

Havok looked at the dog.

Looked at me.

Then calmly sat back down beside me.

No reaction. No chaos. No correction needed.

Later, during my massage, I told him to lay down and he stayed there the entire time just quietly watching.

A few times when the therapist hit spots that hurt, he reached his big paw over and laid it on my knee like he was checking in…

“You good?”

That’s the part people don’t see.

The quiet moments.

The moments that don’t look impressive on camera.t

The moments where a dog quietly grounds you, keeps tabs on you, or simply reminds you that you’re not carrying everything alone.

The best service dogs don’t need to be loud.

Most of the time… they’re just steady.

And if I’m honest, sometimes I wish people could see through my eyes for a minute and understand what these dogs actually do for veterans. … Hell they do for me.

LEGACY.

People see a beautiful dog.

We see a lifeline.

Let’s stop pretending these dogs are just here to sit, stay, or look good in photos.

Veteran su***de is still a problem. First responder su***de is still a problem. Too many are still fighting battles long after the uniform comes off. Too many are still losing.

These dogs are trained to stand in that space.

To be the reason someone gets out of bed. The reason they leave the house. The reason they feel safe enough to sleep. The interruption to isolation. The constant when everything else feels unstable.

And sometimes…

That dog beside them becomes part of the reason they are still here.

That’s what LEGACY means to us.

Not producing dogs.

Producing lifelines. 🇺🇸🐾

We see the work behind it.

New environment. Noise. Elevators. Crowds. Travel. Distractions.

Still expected to stay neutral.

That’s the difference between a dog that can perform when life is easy… and one that can be depended on when life isn’t.

This is the standard. 🐾🇺🇸

Memorial Day means something different for a lot of us. 🇺🇸

Today we remember the ones who never made it home.

And we remember that for some, the battles didn’t end when service did.

This is part of why Hiatus K9 exists.

Dogs like Havok are purpose-bred and trained to bring stability, grounding, and reliability when life gets heavy.

Today we honor the fallen.
And we keep showing up for the ones still carrying the weight.
