A SERVICE DOG ISN’T ASSIGNED. A TEAM IS BUILT.

At Hiatus K9, we don’t look at a list of veterans, look at a row of dogs, and start pairing names.

The veteran has to be ready.

The dog has to be ready.

And just as importantly, the two of them have to make sense together.

Temperament matters. Lifestyle matters. Needs matter. Personality matters. Even the things that are hard to put on paper matter.

That is why we don’t force a match because a date is coming up or because a dog has reached a certain age.

Sometimes the right dog is already here.

Sometimes the right dog hasn’t even been born yet.

We will wait for the right team before we create the wrong one.

Because when we place a service dog, we aren’t trying to complete a transaction.

We are building a relationship that we intend to support for life.

A huge thank you to everyone who has stepped up for Olivia and these pups. ❤️🐾

Items from the registry have officially started arriving, and I cannot tell you how much we appreciate every single person who has helped.

Every item helps us prepare for this litter, care for Olivia, and give these puppies the very best start possible before they ever begin the work they were bred for.

And reality is setting in fast. These puppies could start arriving in as early as 10 days! 😳🐾

There are still several much needed items remaining on the registry. If you are able to grab one or two items, or simply share the registry with others, it would be greatly appreciated and would help us more than you know.

Olivia may look less impressed with the deliveries than I am 😂, but trust me, we are incredibly thankful.

On the left, the OG “Gunner” one of the dogs who helped shape the mission long before there was ever a name for everything we were building.

On the right, Olivia our matriarch, our foundation, and now carrying the next generation.

But what sits between them is bigger than a breeding program.

It’s veterans who need more than a dog.

It’s dogs bred with intent, raised with purpose, trained with standards, and matched because they belong with that person, not because they were simply available.

It’s the miles. The late nights. The public-access work. The setbacks. The breakthroughs, the frustrations. The phone calls years after placement. The promise that when one of our dogs leaves here, that team never stops being part of this family.

It’s knowing every puppy born here has a purpose before they ever open their eyes.

And it’s knowing that every dog we place has already been loved.💜

They don’t know the name.
They don’t know the face.
And they have no idea just how much one dog may change their life.

But long before that first meeting, the work has already started.

The love.
The training.

Because when that day finally comes, we don’t want to hand them just a dog.

Well, there it is! 💜 Olivia’s Puppy Shower is officially set!

September 14th at 11:00 AM at Press Cafe in Fort Worth.

Come hang out with us, celebrate our girl, learn more about the Service Dog Program, and help us welcome the next generation of little LIFELINES into the world.

Space is limited, so make sure you RSVP if you want to come.

This whole thing started as a little idea to celebrate Olivia before the puppies arrive, and seeing it actually come together is pretty damn cool. 💜

What you see is Havok learning to ride an escalator.

What we see is another step toward the day someone may need him more than they can put into words.

Service dog training isn’t about teaching a dog to look good in public. It’s about preparing him to stay steady when the world around his veteran doesn’t feel steady at all. The crowds. The noise. The movement. The anxiety. The moments when getting from one place to the next can feel like too much.

Havok has to be ready for all of it.

Because someday, he won’t just be the dog standing beside a veteran.

He may be the LIFELINE that helps get them through that moment and on to the next one.

That is why we train.

Some of the hardest moments happen when nobody else is around.

Late at night.
After the phone stops ringing.
When the house gets quiet and your own head gets loud.

For some veterans and that is where a service dog can make a difference most people will never see.

A dog that wakes you from a nightmare.
Interrupts the spiral before it gets worse.
Grounds you when everything around you feels like too much.
Or simply gives you a reason to get up, open the door, and face another day.

September is Su***de Prevention Awareness Month and National Service Dog Month.

At Hiatus K9, those two things are connected for a reason.

Several items are officially on the way for Olivia and the puppy crew. 💜🐾

And just like that, the countdown feels a little more real.

The whelping room is coming together, the box is being finished, and Olivia is doing a pretty good job of reminding us that these babies are coming whether we’re ready or not. 😂
