Bike Walk Tompkins

Bike Walk Tompkins Bike Walk Tompkins (BWT) grew out of the organizing group for Streets Alive! Ithaca and provides a central push for active transportation (i.e.

Join the movement to make Ithaca and Tompkins County a community where walking, biking and rolling are safe and convenient for people of all ages and abilities. biking and walking) in Tompkins County, through outreach & education, equipment & services. We work collaboratively with other people and organizations to change the culture and infrastructure in Ithaca and Tompkins County so that more peo

ple can embrace active transportation in their everyday lives. By making active transportation more prevalent and reducing the use of personal automobiles for short trips, our community will reap the multiple health, environmental, economic and social benefits associated with strong active transportation networks. In 2019, we unveiled our action plan for Ithaca and Tompkins County, the Bicycling for Everyone Plan (https://everyone.bikewalktompkins.org). Bike Walk Tompkins was formally organized in May 2014 and is currently a program of the Center for Community Transportation, a local non-profit with the mission of enhancing community access to transportation while reducing the negative environmental and economic impacts of car use. BWT has been generously funded in part by the Park Foundation.

Stay tuned! 🤫 We’ll soon be announcing the 2026 Park(ing) Day installations and our amazing community partners.

Park(ing) Day is almost here, and we can’t wait to see Ithaca reimagine our public infrastructure through joy, creativity, and connection. From parklets and public art to community gathering spaces and interactive displays, Ithaca's Park(ing) Day invites us to imagine what our curbside parking spaces could be if they were not given up to store cars. 🚲🌱🎨 bikewalktompkins.org/parkingday

Thank you for inviting us on this walk, Assemblymember Anna Kelles!

Last week, we walked Route 13 with partners from NYS Department of Transportation, City staff, Bike Walk Tompkins and the Finger Lakes Independence Center to look specifically at how that overlapping construction is affecting accessibility for residents. Seeing these barriers on the ground together helped identify what needs to change and where better coordination is needed.

Our bike shop has OFFICIALLY been graced by a psychedelic mural of our Swamp City amphibious mascot! This was all made possible with the help of our friends at ReUse for the materials, Meldrims for paint, and Ithaca Carshare for construction + the creative genius of Amie Beth Herman who designed and painted this awesome mural. When you stop by the shop, be sure to snag a picture with Lil' Gizzy, affectionately named after the band who provided the soundtrack for the painting sessions. Hand it off — We park your bike securely in our monitored area.
Enjoy the festival! — No need to lock your bike or worry about it while you’re inside.

Thank you for having us, 210 Hancock and the Northside neighbors! Yesterday, INHS hosted us for the afternoon, and we had twenty kids shredding around the neighborhood while learning bike safety skills include three kids who learned how to ride. Additionally, we repaired eight bikes and made dozens of referrals to Swamp City Community Cycles, ERide Ithaca, 2-1-1 Tompkins/Cortland, and Cornell Cooperative Extension Tompkins County.

🚨BIKES AVAILABLE AT CAYUGA HEIGHTS ELEMENTARY!
Our friends at Cayuga Heights Elementary donated a ton of kids bikes for us to refurbish and get back out into the community. HOWEVER we were unable to take these in the photo due to space constraints. They are available for free or suggested donation to their PTA (www.chespta.net). The bikes can be picked up at CHES (shed located on the northwest side of the school). ⚠️ They all need various levels of repair, so bring it down to Swamp City for tune up! Questions?
