Headline: From a cold van in Kansas to a warm bed in Texas. 🇺🇸

Today was a day of incredible blessings at Veterans & Patriots United! We want to give a massive shoutout to the team at Mattress Firm Huntsville for stepping up in a huge way for our veterans.

One of our guys, Ed Mouse, shared his story today. Just 40 days ago, he was sleeping in a van in 3-degree weather in Kansas because the local shelter wouldn’t allow his dog inside. Ed chose the cold to keep his best friend warm. After joining an online FOB Rasor meeting, he found his way to us—and today, he’s sleeping on a brand-new bed.

FALLEN NEVER FORGOTTEN!

This morning, Friday, March 27, 2026, VPU had the honor of recognizing Corporal Jerry Wayne Wickman by reading his Medal of Honor citation at the HEARTS Veterans Museum of Texas. Every Friday, we highlight our week by paying respects to the 58,320 fallen heroes with a cleaning ceremony of the Vietnam Wall.

On Veteran’s Day, the veterans came through and pulled flags in rush hour traffic of Huntsville Texas. Thank you to all of the support who honked for us. 🦁

🇺🇸 Flag Project Update 🇺🇸

Five VPU members came together this week to set 9 new flag mounts for the Flag Project. Locations include Sam Houston State University (SHSU) and the Sam Houston Memorial Museum & Republic of Texas Presidential Library.

The team dug holes, placed 14-inch mounts with precision, and secured them with concrete footings. This is part of the ongoing logistics to ensure patriotic flag displays are proudly flown at least 13 times a year for the City of Huntsville and SHSU.

The Flag Project currently flies the U.S. and Texas flags from more than 260 in-ground mounts across the community. VPU also has a dedicated block where the flags of all military branches and the POW/MIA flag are displayed in honor of our nation’s heroes.

👏 Thank you to our residents for their hard work in keeping this tradition strong and visible for all to see.
