Meal Ministry Update

Over the years, the number of meals an individual may receive during a serving time at the Meal Ministry has changed, and we recognize that this may have created some confusion. With new leaders, volunteers, and patrons joining us, we want to make sure everyone has the same information moving forward.

Beginning Sunday, September 6, 2026, each individual may receive no more than 2 meals per serving time.

This clarification is intended to provide consistency for our staff and volunteers and to ensure our food and resources are available to serve as many people in our community as possible. Thank you to everyone who attended, sponsored, supported, and helped make the 14th Annual 4-Man Golf Scramble for New Life Ministries possible this weekend!

Despite our original date getting rained out, we were finally able to come together to golf in support of the New Life Community Meal Ministry, Women's Life House, Men's Life House, and Children's Life House. Because of everyone’s support, we can continue to provide life changing services to those in need of food, shelter, and a purpose-filled life. Thank you!

We want to give a special thank you to Joel Scheer of Ruoff Mortgage, Markle Riverside 316, and RWC Roofing Systems for their sponsorship of this event! Also, thank you to all the families, churches, and businesses who sponsored a hole. And, thank you to the 23 teams who came to golf!

Life Center Progress!

Back in 2024, we shared that we had begun working on repairing the building that will one day become the Life Center. Our updates have been a little limited, simply because project like these take time, resources, and lots of hands to make them happen.

But this summer we made some significant progress on this building thanks to mission teams and interns! The teams bricked in all the basement windows, installed flooring on the first and second floors of the office side of the building, and began installing trim.

Before the teams arrived this summer, we also completed several other projects, including installing HVAC systems, replacing exterior doors, getting gas to the building, sealing the parking lot, installing bathrooms on the main floor, and lots of painting. These projects were made possible thanks to generous gifts during our 2024 Benefit Auction and grant funds.

There is still plenty of work to be done on this building, but we are excited to finally share a glimpse into the progress happening. Thank you to everyone who has helped move this project forward, whether through giving, serving, or praying.

We were so busy this last month, that we forgot to share that our third and final intern had joined us on June 29. But now that his experience has wrapped up, we wanted to share more about Charles and the amazing work he accomplished.

Charles is from Greensburg, Indiana and is a music student at IU Southeast. For Charles, this was not his first time at New Life. Charles actually visited a couple years ago with his Christian Student Fellowship group from college who came to New Life Ministries for a mission trip.

“I really enjoyed my time serving here for a week (on a mission trip), so when I heard about the intern opportunity, I decided to come for the summer to serve longer,” Charles shared.

During his time, Charles saw the many pieces of ministry work. He helped with various projects and laid flooring in the Life Center. He also assisted Gina (Meal Ministry Director) at the Meal Ministry with serving and organizing food received from the food drives this summer. Because of Charles’ background, he spent a large portion of his time assisting New Life Fellowship with their worship. Getting to lead and work with the worship team was his favorite part of his experience.

But serving wasn’t the only impact for Charles. When reflecting on his trip, he shared that God opened his eyes. By serving in Huntington, God placed Charles’ in a different environment with entirely new people with different backgrounds than he was used to seeing in college. “I saw God work incredible things in the lives of even people I wouldn’t expect. It was a reminder to me that no matter what state you’re in, God can transform your life in amazing ways that you would think would be impossible,” said Charles.

We enjoyed our time serving with Charles and are glad he even chose to stay a little longer with us. As he is now home preparing for the next school year, we give praise to God for his time and ask that God continue to bless Charles in his college endeavors.

Due to the amount rain we have received over the course of this week, the 14th Annual Golf Scramble for New Life Ministries has been postponed until Saturday, August 29. For any of our event sponsors or registered teams who have questions about this change or conflicts with this new date, please don't hesitate to reach out.

In the fall of 2025, New Life Ministries was awarded a grant by the Community Foundation of Huntington County to help cover the costs of demolishing and building a new front porch at the Men's Life House. This project came about once we noticed wooden boards breaking down, pillars crumbling, and the porch becoming unsafe for residents.

Completing this project was going to require a skilled group of people. So, when Woodland Baptist Church signed up for a mission trip, we knew this was a project they could easily tackle! While they were here for a week, they tore down the old porch and quickly built the new porch (as seen in the after photos). The new porch is much sturdier, and we know it will last for many years to come.

The only thing left is to stain or paint the porch, which we plan to complete in the fall when temperatures start to cool down a bit.

Thank you to Woodland Baptist Church for completing this project! And thank you to the Community Foundation of Huntington County for supporting New Life Ministries and our grant request to make this project possible!

Even in our time of navigating a significant loss for our team, we are reminded of how amazing our community is.

This summer, we witnessed countless people, businesses, and organizations come together and be a part of something big in our community by honoring Bob Burnsworth through food drives and monetary gifts in support of the New Life Community Meal Ministry. It's a powerful reminder that one person's life can inspire an entire community to serve others.

To everyone who participated in any way (whether you donated, organized, volunteered, or simply shared the opportunity), thank you! We are grateful for your generosity and are blessed by the outpouring of love shown to Bob, our ministry, and the people we serve.
