Helping Paws Pet Haven, Inc. We are a limited admission 501 (c)3 cat rescue that takes in cats/kittens, mostly strays and gives them a chance at finding their forever homes. Thank you!

We are an all volunteer organization run solely on donations, adoptions and fundraisers. How We Began:

In the fall of 2001 we were living in the town of Huntington, IN, and started feeding a rough looking feral tomcat. We named him Ralph, and at the slightest squeak of the door knob he would fly off of the porch and be gone. It took months to gain his trust, but he was so worth the wait! We were unable to take him in the house so we created a nice space for him and moved him into the garage. Somewhere along the line we thought it would be a good idea to start a cat rescue. Crazy as it was, we did. We found a property, out on State Road 9, with a house for us, a building we could renovate to start a Rescue/Cattery and a barn for storage; so everyone moved, including Ralph. We had our first meeting December 15, 2002, and to our surprise people came! People that we didn’t even know came wanting to support us and be involved. We are fortunate to have some of those people still involved today. Another surprise, people gave money! Donations came in for us to start the non-profit, purchase supplies and get the rooms for the cats constructed. We opened our doors January 2003 to accept our first residents with Ralph greeting them with open paws. Like most rescues and shelters, that first year was tough and there have been a lot of changes since then. The renovated building turned Cattery, had a wood burner for heat. That meant purchasing wood, storing it and getting up during the night to keep it going! It also did not have water. We used a garden hose from the barn (with cold water) to wash litter boxes and bowls outside and we used milk jugs to carry water inside to fill bowls. Our first Banquet in October 2003 raised enough money to put in a furnace. The huge wood burner was sold. With that money we purchased a hot water heater and utility sink which were installed in a small room we had built for them in the barn. This is where we still wash litter boxes. A garage sale raised money to add the central air in 2004. In 2006, Ralph, with the help of two wonderful ladies, composed a letter asking for donations to have water installed into the cattery. I must say, getting hot water and a sink actually in the cattery was the best thing, next to getting rid of the wood burner, to be accomplished. I still thank you ladies very much! You don’t know how much you miss something or what an inconvenience it is until you don’t have it. Meanwhile, Ralph has stayed busy helping settle in any new residents and keeping control of his room. He really is a great cat and mascot. He knows he has a position and takes it very seriously. Ralph reminds me of John Travolta in Grease. He always has a group around him, the girls swoon over him and the guys want to be like him. There have been other changes big and small, but this was our beginning. We could never have done it, or continue to do it, without your help.

Good evening friends!

Today was a day of lots for extra work being done. Besides the normal everyday cleaning in the cattery, some of our other volunteers came out to help.

We were running pretty low, as in actually out other than what was in our barrels, of bedding pellets that we use for litter. So Dylan picked up a pallet for us and unloaded it into the store room.

Then as many of you know, we have not been able to use our outdoor kennels on two of our rooms. They have been in bad shape for the last several years, so the typist didn't feel comfortable letting us out in them. So Doug, Jeff and Kelly all volunteered to take those kennels down. All of this being done while Shirley, Faye & Dawn tackled the cleaning inside. We thank them all for their hard work today!

If anyone would be interested in buying the kennel panels one or all, please let us know. Most are still in great shape.

Night all ❤️ Wyatt

I was so busy last evening making sure everything was where it needed to be that I didn't get but a couple of pictures.

Thank you to every who attended, your continued support means to world to the residents at HPPH, the volunteers & myself.

I had planned a great post, but honestly, there's nothing that could compare to what Danielle haf written for last night's Jamie's Legacy post. She said it all.

I so appreciate the new volunteers that came from my shoulder surgery. They have become fast friends & the cats enjoy the time they spend with them.

Thank you to those who donated items to the silent auction, helped set up & tear down. We hope everyone had a good time.

Thank you Danielle for your kind words. Rescues & shelters need to work together, not year each other down. Rescue is not easy & that just makes it harder. The cats in our care deserve the best that we can give them. ❤️ Dawn

At the Heart of Rescue Is Each Other.

Tonight, we’re spending a special evening at Helping Paws Pet Haven’s Annual Banquet, surrounded by people who understand what it truly means to love animals and dedicate a piece of your heart to saving them.

At Jamie’s Legacy, we believe that supporting rescue means so much more than supporting our own Sanctuary, sharing posts, or cheering each other on from afar. Sometimes, it means simply showing up. Giving your time, lending a hand, sharing the hard days, and celebrating the good ones together.

Three of us from Jamie’s Legacy volunteer every week at Helping Paws Pet Haven, and that time means a lot to us. It's not just about the work we do while we're there. It's about the friendships we build, the animals we love, and the comfort of being around people who truly understand why we do what we do.

Because rescue isn't always easy. There are exhausting days, heartbreaking moments, and times when the need feels bigger than any of us. But there is also so much love, laughter, hope, and joy when we come together.

Tonight, sitting around these tables, sharing conversations and fellowship, is a beautiful reminder that we don't have to walk this rescue journey alone.

We may have different rescue names, different roles, and different responsibilities, but our hearts are in the same place.

Rescue should never be about competition. It should be about compassion, friendship, and lifting one another up.

We're thankful for our friends at Helping Paws Pet Haven, for the work they do, and for the opportunity to be a small part of their journey, not just tonight, but every week.

At the end of the day, it's not about whose name is on the building. It's about the lives we touch, the animals we help, and the love we share along the way.

From all of us at Jamie’s Legacy, here's to fellow rescuers, friendships built through compassion, and always remembering why we started.

🐾 It's all for the love of the animals. Always. ❤️

Share and follow us to receive updates on all our amazing cats.

Jamie’s Legacy is a 501(c)(3) non-profit animal welfare organization & has been saving lives since 2012.

It's finally Friday!!

We are T minus 21 hours until our banquet!! The volunteers have been working most of the afternoon & into early evening getting set up. There are still a few more silent auction items to be set out......but it's getting there!

The food will be delish, the fellowship grand & the cat storytelling will overflow!

Besides the silent auction, we have the Cutest Cat photo contest.... & Let me tell mew...... There are some very nice looking cats. It would be very hard for me to put my green papers in just one container. Then there's a 50/50 drawing as well tickets for a mystery gift bag! I hear it has some very nice items in it. Those attending will definitely want to purchase tickets.

The fundraiser will be held at Faith Community Church 3615 N. Norwood Rd in Huntington. Doors open at 5pm with dinner served at 6pm. Tickets are just $15. It's going to be a great night.

There's some last minute things I need to oversee tomorrow, so I better turn in early. Night friends ❤️ Ducky

Here's to a fun filled Wednesday! We forgot to share a shirt video with you all. Our friend Shauna got us a new toy!! She's always bringing us something.

Some weren't too sure about the wacky fish at first, but after a few days it's become a favorite toy to some. Thanks Shauna for thinking of us!

We are just a few days out from our banquet! Doors open at 5pm & dinner at 6pm at the Faith community Church in Huntington. The dinner will be delish! There will be lots of silent auction items to bid on. And don't forget to enter the Cutest Cat Contest! Send your picture & order your tickets at 260-519-0386 or [email protected] & the typist will get with you. Or you can message us here.

Have a good evening! ❤️Tommy

On the days that are tough..... This is what keeps us going. Rescue is hard. What very few see is the behind the scenes. The cats that come in injured, sick or starving. The care & time it takes to get them back into shape & still some don't make it. The running/ordering supplies, bottle feeding, so many vet visits, cleaning, piles of laundry, texts, phone calls & emails needing to place a cat. Wanting to help but can't because it will take away from the cats you have. Medical bills that pile up or deciding who should go to the vet next because right now there's enough in the checkbook for one. Stretching the cleaning supplies, food & litter. Not enough volunteers & hoping the ones you have don't get burnt out. Searching for new fundraisers because the cattery survives off of donations. Hoping & praying that someone will come in & want to adopt that young kitten that was abandoned so it doesn't live her life here. Not that you don't want her, but because there isn't enough time in the day to give to her. She needs a family of her own.

This is Hedy. She was seen being thrown like trash from a car in 2018. She came to us with a fractured front leg. She did well & it healed but she lived her young cat life with us.

About 3 years ago, she wore a volunteer down. The volunteer had a senior cat & thought maybe she needed a friend. So she took Hedy to "foster", a trial base to see how it went. Hedy stayed. Sadly the senior cat passed, but Hedy has moved into the "bestie" role for our volunteer.

I stopped by the volunteer's house today & snapped this picture of Hedy, one persons trash, now living her best life......napping in sun puddles.

Our fundraiser banquet is this Saturday, Oct 24. Doors open at 5pm at the Faith community Church in Huntington. The funds raised will help care for cats like Hedy until they can find their forever sun puddles. ❤️

Good evening friends!

Furry Fix has restocked their shelters! These are absolutely wonderful. They are heavy duty totes, insulated & plenty of straw.

If you are feeding outside cats & in need of shelters, these are the ones you want. If your cats won't go in, the plastic over the door can be removed. If you are making your own or using a dog house for a shelter, please remember to use straw, it's a great insulator & they can burrow down in it. Hay is for eating, rugs, blankets & towels can draw in the cold & do not dry out. They will freeze if they get wet.

We have started to dip down into the 30s at night. This morning we had frost. So winter is coming & shelter is a must.

Night all ❤️ Sprocket ~ former stray who appreciated the shelters before coming into HPPH

Official unofficial board meeting!

Lots of business was discussed. First on the agenda was the need to increase the treat budget. Then the napping schedule. It seems that a few .... Will & Pixel ..... Are always in the best boxes. We need to set up a rotation schedule. Then we needed to decide who & where the new blankets would go ... We had a volunteer purchase a couple of very soft blankets a few days ago.

Finally ... We discussed the unfair fact that none of us are invited to our very own banquet! Something about health violations.... 😿. Anywho..... Tickets are still available for you hoomins! Saturday, Oct 24. Faith Community Church is the place to be. Send a message, text or email Dawn at 260-519-0386 [email protected]

Have a good evening! ❤️ Sprocket, Tommy & Paige
