WFR Day 3! On the final day of weekend 1, the Sidequest team learned about using ultrasound, making litters out of objects you'd have with you camping, and did a full realistic mock rescue complete with splinting, patient assessment, extrication, and transport. The team also went over another few types of medical scenarios you may encounter while in the wilderness.

An epic breakfast was enjoyed thanks to our awesome host, Su-Strand Farm, and we got to eat lunch and dinner with a gorgeous view of the town of Notodden.

A continued thank you to the best instructor ever, Dr. Nic, and we hugely look forward to weekend 2! Stay tuned for a recap of the adventures we went on during the few days off we had, as well as what we'll be doing during Weekend 2!

ISLA WFR Day 2! Today, our team dove into remote wound care, dislocations, creating shelters, and suturing. With the beautiful Norwegian countryside as a backdrop for the course, our team is unbelievably stoked to continue learning more. From realistic wounds (it's makeup, don't worry) in practicals to sitting at the table practicing sutures in the dark, the ISLA Sidequest team is gaining more and more knowledge as each hour of this course passes.

Day 2 included a delicious dinner the team made, and we finished the night off with an equipment breakdown and a good night's rest for the squad.

We again thank our incredible instructor Leland Surf Expeditions for the hospitality, the sharing of knowledge, and your willingness to let us get super hands on with your equipment!

The ISLA Sidequest reveal! 5 ISLA members have traveled to Notodden, Norway to obtain their WFR certifications over these next two weeks.

Working with Surf Expeditions and Similar Shores Foundation, our 5 ISLA team members will, after earning their WFR certs, be more prepared to assist in any medical scenarios that arise during future operations. Although our team members are already medically trained, the WFR certification provides additional knowledge that is crucial for operating in more remote terrain, which most ISLA operations take place in.

On Day 1, our team was introduced to the WFR course, our amazing instructor, Dr. Nic Frazier, and we began lectures and mock practicals. Stay tuned as we share more of what the team does throughout their course! 🛟 🌊

On World Drowning Prevention Day, we stand with the global community to remind everyone that drowning is preventable. As international lifesavers, our mission goes beyond the shoreline, and we are dedicated to equipping communities with the vital water safety skills needed to save lives.

Whether it’s wearing a life jacket, learning to swim, supervising children closely, or learning CPR, one small action can change a lifetime. Let's work together to turn the tide against drowning and ensure everyone returns home safely from the water. 🌊🌍💙

🚨 BREAKING: ISLA has officially unveiled our newest Mobile Lifeguard Tower. 🐪🏖️

Apparently the budget committee said, “No more towers.” So… we adapted.

Pros:
✅ Incredible ocean views
✅ All-terrain capability
✅ Eco-friendly
✅ Never gets stuck in traffic

Cons:
❌ Doesn’t fit in the station garage.
❌ Has a mind of its own.

😂 Thankfully, riding camels isn’t actually part of the job.

What is part of the job?

✔️ Training alongside Indian lifesavers.
✔️ Sharing lifesaving knowledge that can help save lives for years to come.
✔️ Experiencing one of the most incredible cultures in the world.
✔️ Making lifelong friendships and memories you’ll never forget.

🚨 AGENCY SPOTLIGHT 🚨

Each month, we'll be highlighting some of our partner agencies! Take a look at our first partner agency spotlight down below. ⬇️

The Macedonian Rescuer program is a lakes, rivers, and swiftwater lifeguard program based out of Veles, North Macedonia. Despite being a 100% volunteer organization, they have incredibly skilled lifeguards and bolster them with amazing visibility, frequently appearing in local TV/media to draw attention to the fight against drowning worldwide!

Macedonia Rescue traces its beginnings to 2011, born out of a need for lifesaving in North Macedonia’s rivers and lakes. Meanwhile, the ISLA-Macedonia Rescuer partnership stems from the mid 2010s with at least 3 operations including a 2017 open-water lifeguard academy in Veles. See some faces you recognize?

The campaign against global drownings needs YOUR help!

ACADEMY DAY 3! On Day 3, our cadets completed their Open Water Lifeguard Academy. They began the day with their last few lectures, and quickly moved over to the beach. On the beach, cadets did their last bit of squad work and everyone practiced for their final exams. Final practicals were done after lunch, and then we moved to BEACH FLAGS! Always a hit, beach flags brings out the competitive side of our cadets and is an absolutely epic way to end the academy. Those in the Academy walked on to Playa Ballenita as cadets, and walked off it at the end of the day as Lifeguards and Safeguards!

Congratulations and a huge thank you to all who completed training! ISLA is forever grateful to our Lifeguards and Safeguards that leave our training and continue on to make a huge and awesome difference in their communities.

Stay tuned for an inside look at what our Guards' graduation ceremony looked like, coming soon! Lifeguards for life! 🛟🛟
