The Laborers’ Health and Safety Fund will be conducting health screenings here at the Ohio Laborers’ Training Center for both trainees and training center employees during the following weeks of the 26’-27’ training season

On behalf of the entire staff here at the Ohio Laborers’ Training and Apprenticeship Fund I would like to welcome all the hard-working members of LiUNA’s 22 Ohio Local Unions back to the Drexel J. Thrash Training Center for 26’-27’ training season! Classes will begin the week of September 21-25, 2026 and conclude the week of May 3-7, 2027. 💪👏 Apprentice Highlight

Meet Austin, a first-year (going on second) apprentice with Laborers Local 860 working for Tri Mor Corp.

We caught up with Austin during his Confined Space class with Instructor Patrick this past training season to learn what motivated him to join the union, his experience as an apprentice so far, and how training is helping him succeed on the job.

Trench Safety is No Joke. It's a Matter of Life and Death.

June is Trench Safety Month, a time to raise awareness in the industry and among our members about one of the most dangerous activities in construction. Trench cave-ins remain a leading cause of fatalities in our industry.

In any situation, a trench 5 feet deep or greater must be protected using sloping, shoring, or shielding to prevent cave-ins. Just one cubic yard of soil can weigh up to 3,000 pounds, enough to crush bones, damage vital organs, and cause fatal injuries in seconds.

Before you enter a trench, make sure the proper protective systems are in place. No job is worth the risk.
