Lakewood Lightning

Lakewood Lightning Join Us! Do you enjoy swimming, a bit of competition, spending time outdoors, and making new friends? If so, Lakewood Lightning is the place for you.

Lakewood Lightning Swim Team exists to provide an all around positive experience for our children by improving their swimming skills, exercising and having FUN! The Lightning have, for over 20 years, provided children and young adults with opportunities for fun and fitness through swimming. Daily practice begins at the end of April, followed by 5 Saturday inter-division swim meets, NWAL Divisional

meet, and finally the Invitationals - Red, White, & Blue - Allstar - and Ponderosa. Practices focus on proper stroke technique, endurance, strength, and overall fitness. Swim meets provide swimmers with a chance to assess their progress against their personal performance and other swimmers. Social activities are definitely not neglected - Tuesday Night Dinners, Wednesday night food trucks, Thursday nigth grill and chill at the pool, Friday night pizza, the Annual Crawfish Boil, and the overall fellowship created while performing the tasks of putting on swim meets.

2026 Crawfish Boil was a GREAT/WILD/SPICY time! Amazing crawfish. Amazing BBQ. Raffles. Silent Auction. Pool time! All a blast! We were so glad the weather turned around and that everyone came out!

Any incredible event like this is only successful because of the many helpers who graciously give their time and resources. We want to give an extra special shout-out to the helpers who took us to the next level this year!

Stephen McGehee - THE Crawfish King. He is the master behind the Crawfish and without him - this would just be a lame potluck.

Mark Rodenhauser - pulled pork master and emcee extraordinaire!

Kelly Day- crawfish court coordinator and doer of ALL things that just need to be done. Hardest working woman I know!

Karah Russell - crawfish committee member. Provisioner of all essentials needed to host a crawfish boil. And great new energy to have on the team!

John Griffin - El jefe. Enough said.

Susan Sensat - our main LRC and lifeguard liaison. Thank you for helping us bridge swim and LRC! And all you give of your time and help.

Lauren Rhodes - always willing to help and she designed the new (hopefully annual) crawfish boil shirts! She's already hired for next year!

Hernando Portela - provider of shirts! And always a helping hand.

Connie White - you made our auction shine with your amazing basket donations!

Andrea Clara - we are also grateful for all of your generosity in supporting our silent auction.

Sarah Weiss - crawfish committee member and incredible helper both ahead of the event and during!!! A true MVP!

Cynae Brown - crawfish committee member and great helper with the silent auction preparations!

Selina Thompson - master of silent auction setup and ex*****on!

Grace Zuniga - crawfish committee member. You are the voice of reason we ALL need.

Thank you to the many volunteers who helped make this year's crawfish boil the best yet. (especially the post meet set up crew who braved the rain to help get everything in place - I hope your tennis shoes have all dried out! - you are seen and so appreciated)

And finally thank you to everyone who came out. Your generosity goes so far in supporting our little swim community.

We want these kids to remember their Lakewood Lightning days with the fondness only found in childhood. And for the grown ups to reminisce and share their stories. I'm truly grateful that our community has come together with a positive attitude and admirable goal of shaping the next generation into the best they can be!

Thank you, thank you, thank you all.

With Love,
Whitney Tharpe
