Rotary Club of Houlton

Rotary Club of Houlton Rotary is service-driven. Belonging to a Rotary club gives men and women an organized outlet for contributing to communities. Rotarians make a difference!

The Houlton Rotary Club was established on February 20, 1920 as the first Rotary Club north of Bangor. Frank A. Peabody, founder of the FA Peabody Insurance Company and Charles H. Fogg, editor of the Houlton Times were the prime leaders in getting the Rotary Club in operation. Today we have nearly 70 members throughout the greater Houlton area representing a wide variety of occupations. During its

102-year history the Houlton Rotary Club has been proud to support projects in the Greater Houlton Area and abroad. Some of the various projects that Rotarians have assisted with include:

🏆 A Recognition Made Possible by Our Community 🌍🍽️

We’re honored to share that the Rotary Club of Houlton has received the 2025–2026 Bronze Hero Award from ShelterBox, recognizing our club’s support of disaster relief efforts around the world.

This award was made possible thanks to the incredible generosity of our community. Proceeds from last year’s International Food Festival allowed our club to make a donation to ShelterBox, helping provide emergency shelter and essential supplies to families displaced by disasters and conflict.

To everyone who attended, volunteered, performed, sponsored, prepared food, or simply stopped by to celebrate the cultures that make our world unique—thank you. Your support extends far beyond Houlton and reaches people in need across the globe.

A special thank you to Ruba Haddad, Chair of our International Service Committee, whose vision and leadership helped make the event possible. We are also grateful to the Interact Club of the Meduxnekeag and the Gateway Ambassadors for the many volunteer hours they contributed to welcoming guests, assisting participants, and helping the day run smoothly.

Now we’re excited to do it again!

As I prepare to begin my term as President of the Houlton Rotary Club this July, I’m excited to announce that we are now accepting community project funding requests for the 2026–2027 Rotary year.
This year’s Rotary theme is “Create Lasting Impact,” and that is exactly what we hope to continue doing throughout Southern Aroostook.

Through the support of our community and the success of the Rotary Auction and other fundraisers, Rotary has proudly helped fund youth programs, recreation projects, educational initiatives, food security efforts, community events, arts and culture programs, senior services, and many other worthwhile projects across our region.

Organizations interested in applying should submit:
✔️ A brief description of the project
✔️ The amount requested
✔️ How the project will benefit the community

Applicants should also be willing to:
• Answer questions from the Rotary Board during the review process
• Provide a project update presentation if selected for funding
• Partner with Rotary in helping promote and support the success of our Annual Rotary Auction and fundraising efforts

As we review requests this year, priority consideration may be given to projects that demonstrate broad community benefit, measurable or lasting impact, strong organizational preparedness, and opportunities for collaboration or volunteer engagement with Rotary members.

One of my goals this year is to continue growing Rotary not only as a funding organization, but also as a hands-on service organization. If your group has volunteer opportunities or community projects where Rotarians could lend a hand, I’d love to hear about those too.

Funding requests must be submitted prior to June 30, 2026.
Requests may be mailed to:

Houlton Rotary Club
P.O. Box 425
Houlton, ME 04730
Attn: Johanna Johnston
or emailed to: [email protected]

Thank you to everyone who continues to support Rotary’s mission of service above self. Together, we can continue creating lasting impact throughout our communities.

We’re excited to share highlights from this week’s Rotary Club of Houlton meeting!

Please join us in welcoming our newest members, Sharri Shaw and Emilee Shaw. We’re thrilled to have you both join Rotary and look forward to the impact you’ll make in our club and community.

We also had the opportunity to hear from fellow Rotarians Chris Anderson and Johanna Johnston about the work of the Southern Aroostook Development Corporation SADC. Their update highlighted several exciting initiatives, including a regional outdoor recreation marketing campaign designed to showcase all that Southern Aroostook has to offer. 🎥 https://youtu.be/c2nyFEeB9vs?si=bSfr29In0taAOt3i

They also shared updates on the Gateway Ambassadors Program, which continues to gain momentum. The program’s success here in our region has sparked interest beyond our area, with similar efforts now being developed in multiple communities across northern Maine. https://upgradetohoulton.com/ambassadors

Today at Rotary, we had the pleasure of hearing from the incredible team from Living Innovations in Maine.

They shared more about their impactful programs and, most importantly, the inspiring success stories of the individuals they serve. It was a powerful reminder of the difference compassionate support, opportunity, and community can make in people’s lives.

We are grateful for the work Living Innovations does every day to empower individuals and strengthen our communities. 💙

Thank you for taking the time to share your mission with us—we’re inspired by all that you do!
