🌸 Spend your Friday at SAgE Farm!

This Friday, visit All Things Good (Jersey Bee Crazy), one of our SAgE farms, for its first Farm Friday. Come see the pollinator gardens in action, take a mini farm tour, meet the farmer, and discover what’s growing. 🌿🐝

Admission is free, and the farm boutique will be open with fresh flowers, botanicals, handmade salves, tea tours, and local artisan goods. Come slow down, explore something new, and support a local farmer while you’re at it. 💚

Fresh, healthy food starts long before it reaches your plate. The farms that grow our food, the water that sustains them, the land we share, and the communities that depend on them are all connected.

Behind the scenes, our Watershed Team works with the Watershed Institute and NJDEP to make sure the data we collect is consistent, reliable, and useful. So when our volunteers head out to the Paulins Kill with their monitoring gear they’re helping us piece together the bigger story of our watershed. Every sample adds another piece to the picture, helping us better understand the water that connects our farms, our communities, and the land we all share. And that’s the heart of a healthy foodshed: healthy land, healthy water, and healthy communities. 🌱🌊

Our LocalShare gleaners spent the morning at Donaldson Farms, where they harvested:

🥒 430 lbs of cucumbers
🌽 910 lbs of corn
🍅 210 lbs of tomatoes

A HUGE thank you to Donaldson Farms Farm Market for having us and for celebrating 120 years of growing for the community by shining a spotlight on our LocalShare program and the work of food rescue. We’re so grateful to be part of that story! And to Edible Garden , thank you, for donating two pallets of fresh herbs to be shared with the community. From farms celebrating generations of growing to gardens sharing what they have, this is what a thriving local food system looks like!

Thank you to every farmer, grower, volunteer, and partner who helps make sure fresh food gets where it’s needed most.

What happens when a local farm, a community kitchen, and a whole lot of fresh corn come together?🌽 325 pounds of corn made its way from Lentini Farms to Manna House in Newton, where it turned into lunches for the community! And that journey was made possible because of community partnerships. We’re so grateful to Anthony and Heidi Lentini, who have been partnering with us for many years, for continuing to share the abundance of their farm. And thank you to the Manna House team for taking that fresh food and turning it into something nourishing for their community. 💚 More of this fresh abundance continued making its way to our Free Produce Pop-Up Market in Sussex Borough.

From a field in Newton to a community kitchen and then out to the wider community, this is what happens when we work together to support local agriculture and our community!

We’re truly amazed by what our volunteers have helped us accomplish this month!
Their time, energy, and willingness to show up have made it possible to rescue and share so much fresh, local food with our community, including 1,800 pounds worth of summer squash and apples !

The New Jersey Department of Agriculture invites those involved in Urban Agriculture to join subcommittees to help promote its success in New Jersey. This effort is part of our pathway forward to uplift and support the state’s Urban Agriculture producers. These subcommittee groups align with key challenges identified by the Urban Agriculture community and is great opportunity for insightful, solution-focused conversation:

Farmland Access
Zoning and Land Use
Education and Training
Aggregation and Food Security
Marketing
