Look at what a little grant funding can build! 👏

We’re seriously impressed by what Alaskan Homestead Education created with their Quick Response Grant: 10 shelving units, 26 tables, and 30 CNC-cut chairs for their preschool–12th grade classrooms! 🪑🔨

Funding for this project was made possible by the David and Mary Schroer Fund and the Opportunity Fund.

We love seeing local organizations turn community support into something tangible! 💚

Project GRAD is doing immensely good work bringing together students, families and communities on both sides of the bay.

We would like to thank the Homer Foundation for its generosity in supporting Project GRAD family engagement events. Their funding ensured that every event could include a shared meal, helping create a warm and welcoming space where students, families, and community members could come together.

This year's family engagement programming included hands-on STEAM activities, Lights On Afterschool celebrations, and cultural enrichment opportunities. Families in Nanwalek and Port Graham welcomed a visiting cultural partner, Johon EchoHawk Atkinson, from Metlakatla, Alaska, who returns each year to share traditional dance, culture, and community building with students and families. We also hosted family engagement events with Anchor Point, Razdolna, Voznesenka, and Kachemak Selo.

Thank you, The Homer Foundation, for investing in opportunities that strengthen connections among students, families, and communities!

✨ A brighter future for environmental education! ✨

Thanks to the generous support of the Homer Foundation, our Headquarters Building has received an exciting upgrade with the installation of new energy-efficient windows!

These new windows have transformed our workspace by increasing natural light, improving energy efficiency, and creating a more comfortable environment for our year-round staff, seasonal educators, volunteers, interns, and community partners. As the hub for our environmental education programs, this space helps support the thousands of youth and adults who connect with Alaska's incredible coastal ecosystems through the Center for Alaskan Coastal Studies each year.

This project is an investment not only in our building, but in the people who make our mission possible. We're incredibly grateful to the Homer Foundation and its generous donors for helping us create a more sustainable, welcoming space for learning, collaboration, and stewardship.

Thank you for investing in our community and the future of environmental education! 💙🌿

Thursday the festivities begin with the ferry jam on the Alaska Marine Highway (Alaska State Ferry) Tustumena, followed by an open mic - local talent, come be the first to grace the brand new stage!!! This year’s Seldovia Summer Solstice Music Festival is from Thursday afternoon June 18th through late night Saturday.

We are always so impressed with the videos our grantees put together!

A big thank you to Elizabeth Wedner at the Ninilchik Community Library for showing off the new computers purchased with support from a Homer Foundation Quick Response Grant. It's wonderful to see these resources already making an impact and helping strengthen access to technology in the community.

The results are in. Having access to public libraries is important in communities of all sizes!

In June and July of 2025, the Seldovia Public Library conducted a survey to gather input from Seldovia residents and visitors regarding how we might better serve the needs of our community. Thank you to the fifty-five people who took the time to fill out the survey!

Caleb Billmeier and Kate Hohman Billmeier from Wellspring Group Consulting analyzed the data and created this one-page infographic so that we could easily visualize the results. We used this graphic as part of our April 2026 application to The Homer Foundation’s Quick Response Grant program, and were recently awarded a $5,000 grant! This grant comes from The Opportunity Fund, a community fund managed by the Homer Foundation.

The survey results showed that audiobooks, ebooks, movie night, and a color copier/printer were services we could improve upon. However, our technology needed a bit of an upgrade before we could add these programs. We will use the $5,000 Opportunity Fund grant to update our admin and circulation computers, purchase new color copier/printers, and work toward adding audiobooks and ebooks to our offerings.

A sincere thank you to everyone who participated in the survey. Your input is helping to guide the direction of the library.

Here’s a behind-the-scenes glamorous look at community grantmaking - walking around Seldovia yesterday with a very large check in hand.😆

Thank you to Seldovia Public Library, Seldovia Community Preschool, and Seldovia Arts Council for welcoming me to town for the day. It was an honor to present your recent Quick Response Grants and to spend time learning more about the good things happening in Seldovia.

It was also a privilege to present the Diane Wambach “Shoot for the Stars” Scholarship to graduating senior Michael Geagel. Congratulations, Michael!
