Designed and built in 1903 by Charles Schmidt, a French engineer with a German name, the Packard Gray Wolf was based on the Packard Motor Car Company's Model K chassis. It set world records at Ormond Beach.

Motor Speedway. Upside down, the National Motor Vehicle Company race car of Charlie Merz is center right. Track workers huddled around mechanic Claude Kellum. He succumbed to his injuries.
