NYSUT President Melinda Person has released a statement in response to the governor's announcement that New York would opt in to President Trump’s private-school voucher program.

It’s crystal clear — the Trump administration’s voucher scheme cannot be defended.

New Treasury rules could add $150 billion to the deficit over the next decade. And as Rep. Gwen Moore put it, the regulations make clear this scheme is about propping up private schools at the expense of our public schools.

That’s the choice we should be talking about: invest in the public schools serving every student, not divert public dollars to private schools.
