A Heartfelt Plea for Help: Weathering the Storm
In the face of adversity, it's natural to feel overwhelmed, especially when everything seems to be going wrong at once. Today, we find ourselves in a challenging situation. Despite our efforts to prevent flooding by investing in a backhoe to trench the water away, fate had other plans. A fierce storm has torn the roof from the barn, leaving the interior drenched and in disarray.
The Struggle to Keep Afloat
The inside of our barn, which doubles as kennels, is now a scene of chaos. Waterlogged dog runs, muddy aisles, and a wrecked feed room make it impossible for our beloved dogs to remain there. We've had to act swiftly, relocating them to any available space where emergency repairs could be made. The heat adds another layer of urgency, as the shade cloth is only a temporary respite from the blazing sun.
The Herculean Task Ahead
With the backhoe at our disposal, we are working tirelessly to drain the flooded areas, hauling sand to fill in the swampy grounds. Yet, the scale of the task is daunting. We estimate needing at least five pallets of shavings to begin rectifying the situation, but even that may fall short. The barn is vast, and the work required feels monumental.
Our financial resources are strained, as diesel for the backhoe and gas for the generators quickly deplete our funds. To make matters worse, several barn fans have been damaged and need replacing—an expense we hadn't anticipated.
A Call for Optimism and Support
Despite the relentless challenges, we remain committed to our mission. The dogs are worth every effort we make, and their well-being is our priority. We hold on to the hope that this difficult period will pass, that better days are on the horizon.
In the meantime, we humbly ask for your support. Donations are urgently needed to help us purchase supplies and repair our facilities. Tractor Supply e-gift cards are particularly useful, as most of what we need can be sourced from there and Ritters, our local lumber store. Every contribution, no matter how small, brings us one step closer to restoring our barn and providing a safe haven for our dogs.
Together, We Can Make a Difference
In times like these, community support is invaluable. Your generosity and kindness can help us overcome this setback and continue our rescue work with renewed strength. We believe that, with your help, this storm will pass, and we will emerge stronger and more resilient than ever.
Thank you for standing with us in this trying time. Your support means the world to us and to the dogs who depend on us.

CLARK
🚨⚠️🚨URGENT CALL-DON’T LEAVE HIM BEHIND ALL ALONE!⚠️🚨⚠️

Clark’s companion of 3 years has found a foster. Lewis & Clark came in together from an animal shelter March 2023. After all this time…Lewis has found a foster! Leaving Clark behind is a horrible option so how about a foster? He’s a gentle boy, easy going, laid back and just a pleasure to have roaming around..This handsome fellow is a great family dog.

He can make this trip for either foster or adoption and it arrives on July 3rd. Interested? Lets talk!

Lily
🚨⚠️🚨URGENT CALL-DON’T LEAVE HER BEHIND ALL ALONE!⚠️🚨⚠️

Lily came in with 2 brothers over a year ago…just little pups. It takes so long to find them homes…she has grown up in a rescue! Her brother Felix was adopted asap…leaving her and Dozer. Now Dozer has a home…. And that leaves just little Lily all by herself in their playyard. The photos don’t show it well but Lily is a small pointer gal, she has all the smarts of her pointer heritage just not the size. If you have a small space or a bigger space, Lily is a lot of fun. This youngster is medium energy and plays well with dogs of all sizes! A bit low key, maybe shy…as soon as she knows you she comes running! She can make this trip for either foster or adoption and it arrives on July 3rd. Interested? Lets talk!

Bad as we hate to ask....
we need an a/c for the building that we will be tearing down soon. The episode with Hugo and a few of our other oldies just can't be ingored. Texas is just hot! the building is falling apart...but until we can place all the dogs (hopefully in the next 6 weeks) we have to keep them cool.
I hate spending the money, I hate asking....of course we have a place to use it when we tear the buildings down....we waste nothing.
Our dogs need the a/c, we have dozens of fans going....
Just so darn sad....

Sunday morning at BMAR….just now creeping to daylight. While most people are sleeping, we start our day very early… 3:30 AM. Today is bittersweet. Hugo came from a shelter several years ago…they called because he was such a good boy and they didn’t feel that a senior as good as the boy should not have to die in an uncaring shelter alone and he was sick, not much time left. Nobody but BMAR will take in a mastiff mix with medical problems to bring them home and die….except us. They knew who to call.
He was a really good boy and we were able to bring him into good health….the BMAR crew is outstanding and dedicated to the voiceless in our care. He rebounded so well that he went back to Dallas to live with Colleen for awhile….and he was a happy boy, well loved, well tended to. Life happens, situations change, and Hugo made his way back to us when the family relocated out of state. Welcomed with open arms, Hugo went right back to his routine, knew he lived here with the others.
Though he has constant medical care, vet visits, and appropriate medications….old age cannot be be medicated away. Hugo has had several episodes of late…brought on by the heat probably and he can no longer walk well or do stairs. His tongue turns blue, his gums are blue…we have had to carry him to the vet room and start oxygen therapy. Yes, we have that capability. We take in many elderly and ill dogs so we prepare as much as we can. The oxygen works…he spent the night in our emergency (on site) “vet” room and was monitored constantly. As you can see this morning, pink gums. We are rural, we don’t have a clinic or er anywhere near us…so it’s always up to us to do emergency work….we do the best we can. His breathing is rough because even at this time of day, it is very hot and very humid.
Hugo can no longer walk without assistance. That’s not fair to a fine old gentleman. These lack of oxygen episodes & the heat put him in extreme discomfort and his anxiety skyrockets. Don’t get me wrong, he’s a great patient, he is just scared when he can’t breathe. At the round table last night, Hugo was the topic of conversation and we made the difficult decision to take him for his final ride tomorrow. He will get his favorite pup cup, his cheeseburger and go to his favorite vet. He loves to ride, he loves to visit. This is the dignity he deserves. Three of us made this decision, though the buck stops with me, difficult decisions require discussion between all 3 of his caregivers. He deserves us by his side, dignity and peace found in loving arms. To have him expire alone, in panic…well, we can’t do that to him
A lot of you seeing this video will disagree, I will get the hate mail but ultimately it’s our decision and we live with the consequences. These dogs are not cattle to us that move through and leave our lives. We are deeply caring people that provide love and comfort to these dogs for their lives and the rest of ours. Dogs that left us long ago are still remembered…always with laughter, love, fond memories and lumps at their passing.
Tina monitored Hugo all night even sleeping with him on the floor until he was out of danger with the current breathing episode. She got up for restroom duty, tripped and broke her foot. Despite that, she continued her duties…even as you see this morning, saw to her charges and is now on the way to the emergency room for x-rays. People here don’t get to take off for illness and injuries.
Tina broke her foot.
JR came in with swollen eyes.
I spent the night throwing up.
The decision is made…but we pay a price for making it. This is rescue, can you do it?
Through the generosity of others, Hugo’s final bill is paid for in advance.
For that….we are eternally grateful.

Johan

This boy was dumped with his siblings in a crate so he couldn’t escape, deep in the woods where they thought nobody would find them…itty bitty pups. BMAR foiled that plan…and now 3 yrs later…we need him to get him a home. His running buddy is going to foster and he doesn’t want to be left all alone in his play yard. Very friendly to dogs and people, ok with kids. Can you share him? Repost him? Medium energy level means he’s great for any family dynamic! I have a sponsor for 100 off his fees…..so be sure to subtract that!

06/13/2026

Just inundating you with information today…but I want you to know or at least see a little tiny bit of what we do…and we do it all the time. I seriously think you should know about the crew here.
I have been married to Myron for 30 years. He’s not a dog person…he likes cats. But he retired early several years ago (and took less pension because of it) so he could help he rescue out. We were just overwhelmed…I was overwhelmed after all these years the economy took a downward turn and I just flat need help. He came to the rescue, he stepped up. Took less money so he could become a whipping boy for vile creatures in the rescue world.
His day started at 5 AM Thursday morning after stressing through our awful Wednesday that just turned tragic for everyone. Remember that he selected Beau to be the last transport’s mascot and Beau rode by his side up front for 2500 miles to Canada…he hated to turn that dog over….but it’s what he does, what we all do.
He did his regular sections…remember he retrains the “seg dogs” the really bad actors as well as does his other lines. We got an unexpected email to pick up a trailer load of food…13,000 pounds. We have over 450 dogs…that is a windfall. The catch? It’s 400 miles away and he had to be there at 8 AM this morning to load it. Rescue world changes at a moments notice.
But wait…there was another big deal scheduled in ahead of time. We were having our new (old 1989) Case Backhoe delivered. Why so old? Because it’s all we can afford. The rescue can’t afford it, it’s broke. We are personally broke cause all our monthly income goes to shore it up. Solution…pulled the $12,500 out of our retirement fund to buy it. I cannot tell you how much we have pulled out of retirement to fund this rescue for emergency items. Why would we do this? Because we have needed that backhoe for 20 years…it just always got put off til next year which never comes. After 3 hurricanes, several tropical storms and many flood level events…we just cannot take any more destruction due to the flood waters taking out our runs and kennels. Repairs and just plain manual labor dealing with the destruction was eating us alive and it was happening several times a year. We haven’t even been able to build some of the kennel areas back and recover them…we just demolished those sections. The backhoe will trench out the drainage and alleviate 75% of the flooding issues and that’s not small potatoes. We can also finally remove the huge pines that have been downed by past storms that were just too big for our poor tractor to manage…even after applying the chain saw to them. AND don’t forget, we lost our buildings due to structural damage…we can’t repair them. When I got the quote to demolish them (they are unsafe) it was more than the backhoe. So the die was cast. She arrived in all her faded glory. She may be 37 years old…with all the dents and dings…but she runs! And that is what we need here. It doesn’t have to be pretty…it just has to work.
After the excitement and stress of the delivery and unloading her…I fed him and he hooked up the trailer and headed off to West Texas. Hauling that trailer on some of those roads is harrowing…especially at night with the deer and hogs running but drove through the night with trusty Casper by his side and arrived with just moments to spare for the 8 AM deadline. Took and hour to load the food, strap it down and headed back. Grabbing some fast food goodies that upset the tummy, he drove straight back and arrived at the rescue around 5PM. Too late to unload 13,000 pounds of dog food, we secured the straps, put that darn 200 pound tarp over it and came back in to finish chores. He finally got to lay down a bit after 10PM.
Today we both have to run to Jasper and pick up some parts….I need a stock tank and he needs some equipment filters and fluids so we are combining the trip to save fuel. And then? Back to unload that trailer!
Did I mention it was $366 in fuel to pick that food up? While I was paying someone else’s fuel….we are struggling to pay ours to supply 450 dogs with food.
There’s nothing cheap in rescue. So many things just squeeze every dime out of us. It’s a stressed out life no matter how you look at it. Here’s what I am going to look at today. I have the change in my pocket to get that $299 stock tank for these dogs to have flowing water in this heat (I already have the automatic float). He has room left on the credit card to get those bus filters and fluids. And we have a trailer full of 13000 pounds of dog food that will feed these dogs for 2+ weeks. We have a few supporters who have asked not to be named that bail us out when we hit bottom. We have a vet that finds many ways to not charge us. We are a bit broker for our life savings but by golly we have that backhoe. Our dogs are napping in the heat but they have clean water. God is good and we are still here!
So when I forget to mention you, it’s not because I am slighting you. It’s just that as I age, I can’t remember to do everything right anymore. But the one thing I can remember is that “he” stays up for days in a row to do what needs being done…him and his white German Shepherd that nobody wanted. So let’s throw a bit of credit his way. He will do it all over again…driving all day to get your dogs to you.
Now for a bit of fun….our new (old) gal needs a name. What would you call this much coveted gal? She’s a beauty…and just what we needed. Newer is overrated….she’s exactly what we need!

We need some Boost! No, not for my fat butt….For Tina. Tina only weighs 110 lbs and every summer she loses a bunch of weight…weight that she doesn’t have to spare. It’s already hot here…heat index 104 yesterday…higher today. We work outside…it’s hard to eat during the day. She’s really the only one… And before you start accusing us of being grifters…let me tell you why we have them on the list. Tina lives here in a sh*tty rv cause it’s all I could afford out of MY pocket…the rescue doesn’t have the money. She takes care of dogs 7 days a week and she’s in charge of all the med dogs. AT NO PAY! I give her a miserly allowance out of my pocket, your kid gets more allowance. One of her med dog’s leg brace frayed so she chipped in her last hoarded pennies to help me buy that brace. I didn’t have enough cause I just paid the farm truck’s $648 repair bill…again, the rescue didn’t have enough and that truck takes the dogs to the vet and we can’t have them in it without air conditioning…end of story. So she’s broke, I am broke and neither of us can buy the boost.
The second item needed is bottle caps for the 5 gallon water bottles that fit our cooler. Angela gave us the bottles…we bought the cooler so we have cold water all day. Coming back thru PA last trip…we stopped and she gave us 6 more bottles! This means we have cold drinking water all day…we fill them up at the local self serve for $1….AWESOME!
We only need 1 set of the caps and I put 6 of each of the Boost for her. Strawberry or Vanilla. Chocolate upsets her tummy. We don’t need more…
On our Amazon wish list…we don’t need money…just buy off the wish list or send Amazon E-gift cards. And it’s for us volunteers….so be sure you know that’s who you are buying it for. Caregivers of the dogs are decent and caring people…thank you on their behalf.
As always…we don’t care where it comes from….if it’s cheaper somewhere else…we are good with that! Saving money is the way to go. Our shipping address is 525 Jordan Lane Hemphill TX 75948
Our dogs are doing well…good dogs and good people.
