💙💛 ROTARIAN OF THE MONTH — SEPTEMBER! 🌟

🎉 Congratulations, Sophia Serrano! 🎉

The Rotary Club of Hemet is proud to recognize Sophia Serrano as our September Rotarian of the Month!

Some people see something that needs to be done and say, “Someone should take care of that.”

Sophia is the person who says, “I'll do it!” 💪💙

Sophia truly represents what it means to be a Rotarian and a Person of Action!

From serving as President of the former Sierra Dawn Rotary Club to organizing community service projects, Sophia has dedicated countless hours to making our community a better place.

🌟 Her service speaks for itself!

💛 Leadership & Service: Helped establish and lead the Sierra Dawn Rotary Club, organized Wallace Grants bringing youth and seniors together, and supported our End Polio Now dinners.

💙 Fellowship & Fun: For years, Sophia has organized our Club Five gatherings, bringing Rotarians together to explore local businesses, build friendships, and enjoy creative adventures—including this year's Grand Poker Challenge!

🤝 Community Involvement: From Boo at the Bowl and the Sierra Dawn Craft Fair to volunteering at the Ramona Bowl, Sophia is always willing to lend a hand.

❤️ Compassion in Action: During COVID, Sophia personally delivered hundreds of bags of food to Sierra Dawn residents and others in need. That's Service Above Self in its truest form!

And through it all, Sophia has balanced her Rotary commitments with her dedication to her family.

What makes Sophia special isn't just how much she does—it's the heart she puts into everything she does.

She brings people together, makes everyone feel welcome, and reminds us that Rotary is about more than projects. It's about friendship, compassion, and making a difference.

👏 Sophia, THANK YOU for your leadership, creativity, generosity, and unwavering commitment to Rotary!

💙💛 99.9% ISN’T 100%.

Imagine eliminating 99.9% of a disease from the world. That is an extraordinary achievement—and proof of what can happen when people across the globe work together toward one goal.

Since the launch of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative in 1988, cases of wild polio have fallen by more than 99.9%.

Rotarians should be incredibly proud of that progress.

But we didn't promise the world's children 99.9%.

We promised them a polio-free world. 🌎

As long as the poliovirus continues to circulate anywhere, children remain at risk. That's why Rotary and its partners continue vaccinating children, supporting surveillance, raising funds, and reaching communities where the final cases are the hardest to eliminate.

We're closer than ever.

🤏 THIS CLOSE.

The final fraction may be the most difficult—but it may also be the most important.
After more than four decades of commitment, now is not the time to stop. It's time to finish what we started.

🔴 END POLIO NOW.

Because 99.9% isn't 100%.

💙💛 IT STARTED IN 1979 — AND CHANGED THE WORLD.

Every great journey has a beginning. For Rotary's fight against polio, that journey began in the Philippines in 1979.

That year, Rotary launched its first major polio vaccination project, providing vaccines to help protect millions of children in the Philippines. What began as one ambitious service project would eventually grow into one of the largest public-health efforts in history.

Rotarians saw something powerful: when people unite around a common purpose, seemingly impossible goals become possible.

That early success helped inspire Rotary to make polio eradication a global priority. In 1988, Rotary became a founding partner of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, joining organizations and governments around the world in the fight to eliminate the disease.

🌎 Since then, global polio cases have been reduced by 99.9%.

But Rotary didn't make a promise to eliminate almost all polio.

We made a promise to END POLIO.

More than four decades after those first vaccinations in the Philippines, Rotarians continue raising funds, advocating, volunteering, and supporting vaccination efforts so that someday no child will ever again suffer from polio.

What started in 1979 continues today.
One project became a movement.
One vision became a worldwide mission.
And millions of Rotarians became People of Action.

🔴 END POLIO NOW. Because 99.9% isn't 100%.

💙💛 WHAT IS POLIO?

For many of us, polio may seem like a disease from the past. But until it is eradicated everywhere, it remains a threat to children everywhere.

Polio, or poliomyelitis, is a highly infectious disease that most commonly affects children under the age of five. The virus spreads from person to person, primarily through the fecal-oral route, often involving contaminated water or food. It can invade the nervous system and, in some cases, cause irreversible paralysis.

The good news? Polio can be prevented through vaccination. 💧

That's why Rotary has made ending polio one of its highest priorities. For decades, Rotarians and our global partners have worked to vaccinate children, support disease surveillance, raise funds, and advocate for a world where no child ever has to experience polio again.

We've made extraordinary progress—but 99.9% isn't 100%.

Every child vaccinated brings us one step closer.

Every person who learns about the fight helps spread awareness.

Every Rotarian who refuses to give up moves us closer to history.

🌎 A polio-free world is possible. And together, we can finish the job.

💙💛 ENDING POLIO: ROTARY’S PROMISE TO THE WORLD

What if we told you that Rotarians have spent more than four decades working toward something once thought nearly impossible—the worldwide eradication of polio?

Polio, or poliomyelitis, is a highly infectious disease that most often affects children under five. The virus can attack the nervous system, causing paralysis and, in some cases, death.

But this is also a story of what can happen when people refuse to give up.

🌎 ROTARY TOOK ACTION
Rotary’s fight against polio began in 1979, when Rotarians helped vaccinate children in the Philippines. In 1988, Rotary became a founding partner of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative.

Since then, global polio cases have been reduced by 99.9%.

Rotary members have contributed more than $2.9 billion through PolioPlus and countless volunteer hours, helping protect more than 3 billion children in 122 countries.

Today, wild poliovirus remains endemic in just Afghanistan and Pakistan.
That is extraordinary progress—but 99.9% is not 100%.

As long as polio exists anywhere, children everywhere remain at risk. That's why Rotarians continue to raise funds, advocate, educate, and support vaccination efforts around the world.

For Rotary, this isn't simply another service project. It's a promise we've made to the world's children—and we're determined to keep it.

One vaccine. One child. One community at a time.

🟣 Together, we can END POLIO NOW.

🎉💙💛 WE TAKE SERVICE SERIOUSLY… OURSELVES, NOT SO MUCH! 💛💙🎉

Whether we’re building homes, supporting our community, helping local organizations, gathering at the Rotary Ranch, or running around town trying to build the perfect poker hand 🃏♠️♥️♦️♣️ — fellowship is a big part of who we are.

Our recent Poker Run was a perfect example: lots of laughs, a little friendly competition, visits to some great local businesses, and plenty of memories made along the way.

Rotary is about SERVICE, but it’s also about building friendships with people who genuinely enjoy spending time together.

If you’ve ever wondered what Rotary is all about, come hang out with us and find out! You might discover that doing good and having fun go pretty well together. ❤️

🃏♠️ ROTARY POKER RUN FUN! ♠️🃏

What a great night of fellowship, fun, and friendly competition at the Rotary Club of Hemet’s Poker Run!

🏆 A big CONGRATULATIONS to Susan Weeks, our Best Hand Winner! And to top it off, Susan pulled the Ace of Spades! ♠️🥳🏆

And, of course, our amazing President Glen Brock managed to pull the JOKER! 🃏😂 Somehow, that just seems fitting!

A HUGE thank you to the local businesses that opened their doors and helped make our Poker Run possible:

🍕 Milano’s Pizza & Deli
👕 Heavythreads Clothing
☕ Downtown Deli & Coffee
🥐 Panaderia La Reina

Our Poker Run was a great way to get out into the community, support local Hemet businesses, and enjoy some Rotary fellowship along the way.

Thank you to everyone who participated and made the night such a success! 💙💛

💙💛 THREE PARTS. ONE ROTARY. A WORLD OF IMPACT.

Have you ever wondered how Rotary turns an idea in one community into change that can reach around the world?

Rotary is built on three powerful parts working together: our clubs, Rotary International, and The Rotary Foundation.

🤝 OUR CLUBS — Where service begins.

Rotary clubs bring together neighbors, friends, professionals, and community leaders who see a need and are willing to do something about it. This is where relationships are built, ideas become projects, and Service Above Self comes to life.

🌎 ROTARY INTERNATIONAL — Connecting us to the world.

Rotary International connects clubs and Rotarians across the globe. It gives us the network, leadership, resources, and partnerships to take what begins locally and multiply its impact worldwide.

❤️ THE ROTARY FOUNDATION — Turning generosity into action.

The Rotary Foundation provides the resources that help Rotarians tackle some of the world's greatest challenges—from fighting disease and providing clean water to supporting education, strengthening communities, and promoting peace.

Each part is powerful on its own. Together, they make Rotary extraordinary.
A Rotarian can see a need in Hemet, connect with partners halfway around the world, and—with the support of our Foundation—help create a solution that can change lives for generations.

That's what happens when people, partnerships, and possibilities come together with a common purpose.

We are local. We are global. We are People of Action.

💙💛 FIVE AVENUES. ONE MISSION: SERVICE ABOVE SELF.

What does it mean to be a Rotarian?

Rotary gives us Five Avenues of Service—five ways to turn our talents, relationships, professions, and passion for helping others into meaningful action.

🤝 CLUB SERVICE
It starts with us. Club Service strengthens the fellowship, friendships, leadership, and activities that make a Rotary club successful. Strong clubs create strong Rotarians—and strong Rotarians create lasting impact.

🏡 COMMUNITY SERVICE
This is Rotary at work right here at home. Whether we're supporting local schools, feeding families, helping at community events, recognizing those who serve, or rolling up our sleeves for a project, we believe strong communities are built by people willing to get involved.

🌎 INTERNATIONAL SERVICE
Rotary doesn't stop at the city limits—or even the border. International Service connects Rotarians across the world to address humanitarian needs, promote peace and understanding, and improve lives. Sometimes that means traveling to Mexico and helping build a home for a family in a single day. ❤️🏠

💼 VOCATIONAL SERVICE
Rotarians bring their professional skills, experience, and ethics into service. Vocational Service encourages us to maintain high ethical standards, recognize the dignity of every occupation, mentor others, and use what we know to make our communities better.

🌟 YOUTH SERVICE
Our greatest investment may be in the generations that follow us. Through leadership development, education, mentorship, scholarships, Interact, Rotary Youth Leadership Awards and other opportunities, Rotary helps young people discover their ability to lead and serve.

Five different avenues—but they all lead in the same direction:

Toward stronger communities.
Toward greater understanding.
Toward opportunities for others.
Toward a better tomorrow.

At the Rotary Club of Hemet, service isn't something we simply talk about.
We show up. We get involved. We serve.

Because when people from different professions and backgrounds come together with a common purpose, there's very little we can't accomplish.
