In honor of the late Jana Mackey, Jana’s Campaign delivers educational programs that prevent domestic and dating violence, sexual violence, and stalking. In honor of the late Jana Mackey and other victims and survivors of domestic violence, a committed group of activists created Jana’s Campaign, Inc. with the single mission of reducing gender and relationship violence. “We believe it is our respon

sibility to use the story of Jana’s life and the story of her death to help reduce violence against women.” Through our educational program activities, Jana’s Campaign aims to play a significant role in preventing domestic and dating violence and be a catalyst for social change.

Thirty‑three percent of students who participate in an interactive activity we utilize report that they or someone they know has been threatened with su***de if the relationship were to end. This is a warning sign of a growing mental‑health concern among young people.

When we talk with students about this, we take time to unpack what they’re hearing. We ask whether they believe the statement is being used as a threat to control the relationship, or if it may be a disclosure of self‑harm that needs immediate support. Both possibilities are serious, and both require support.

We must continue learning and talking about the connection between dating and domestic violence, mental health, and su***de.

Please help us welcome our summer intern, Elsie Chartier
(.chartier)!

Elsie is a social work student at Fort Hays State University and has been involved with Jana’s Campaign for more than five years through our Youth Advisory Council. She has already made a meaningful impact through peer-facilitation of our Bystander Intervention Training at Hays High School.

Thanks to the support of Nex-Generation Round Up for Youth, we’re thrilled to offer this internship opportunity and have Elsie on our team this summer!

We are incredibly proud of our two part‑time team members who are graduating from Fort Hays State University and stepping into new chapters. Throughout their time with Jana’s Campaign, they brought energy, compassion, and commitment to preventing relationship-based violence.

Their leadership helped spark conversations, strengthen campus engagement, and move our mission forward in meaningful ways. While we’ll miss seeing them in the office, we’re excited to cheer them on as they take everything they’ve learned into the world.
