Minnow - Just Keep Swimming!

Everyone meet Minnow, a sweet little 1–2-year-old, 30-pound Pit Bull/Rat Terrier mix who has already been through more than any dog should.
Minnow was living alone with his beloved mama dog during a brutal heat wave—with no air conditioning and no water, while their owner was hospitalized. Through it all, he had her. She was his comfort, his family, and his best friend.
Suddenly, the only world he knew was gone,
But just like Dory says… “Just keep swimming.”
And that’s exactly what this little guy is doing.
Minnow has made his way to rescue (and his mama is with a different wonderful rescue), and now he’s ready for the next chapter of his story—a chapter where he gets to be safe, loved, spoiled, and cherished forever.

At just 30 pounds, Minnow is the perfect size for someone looking for a little buddy with a BIG heart. We know his happily-ever-after is still out there waiting for him.

Minnow is good in a crate and will need a family willing to help this shy boy gain a little confidence again. He is good with other dogs and while cats are unknown we could cat test him for an approved applicant. He will need a little work with housebreaking, and a consistent routine and environment should help him in this department.

Minnow’s motto: Keep swimming. Keep hoping. Keep loving. His goal: A forever home. His wish: To be someone’s special boy again.

Could you be the person who helps Minnow finally reach the shore?

Just keep swimming, Minnow. Your forever family is out there.

Minnow is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. He is also heartworm tested negative and up to date on preventatives and wellness visits.

Please note: An approved application and appointment are required to meet any of our dogs.

Joker!

Talk about a name suiting a dog! One look at Joker and you find yourself laughing. He is about twice as long as he is tall (check out those short stubby legs!), and about 1.5 times as wide as he is tall. Some sort of rectangular shape with a square head and a tongue that never seems to fit inside his mouth fully. He probably has more going on in his drool gland than in his actual brain, but when you happen to be this cute it doesn't really matter.

Any future adopter should be prepared for very sloooow and short walks with lots of breaks because if he thinks you are stopping for more than 48 seconds he will lie down. And there will be lots of breaks because Joker draws some attention and everyone will want to come check him out.

Thankfully Joker is a social butterfly....although he isn't actually going to make an effort to go find his admirers - he expects them to come to him. He loves all people, is good with other dogs and although hasn't been officially cat tested he did see some in passing and had friendly interest, for about 4 seconds, before he decided it was too much effort and just laid down. We can cat test him for an approved adopter. He has also been around kids 6+ years old and did well with them.

Joker is a 1-2 year old micro exotic bully (he faaaancy!). Aka in the real world he is a smaller pittie/bully type mix. He does have a short face and is prone to all the things that come along with that so he will need to be closer monitored when it is hot out.

Joker was surrendered to us when his owner lived in a place where dogs are not welcome. He had only good things to say about Joker and we can see why. He is the full package!

Joker is housebroken and crate trained as well, although we would expect he may have a few accidents as he gets used to a new environment and routine.

Joker is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. He is also heartworm tested negative and up to date on preventatives and wellness visits.

💔 With very sad and heavy hearts, we have to share some heartbreaking news.

Even with our village stepping in and helping us take on the cost of their treatment, poor Hercules and Cinnamon did not make it. 💔

With the help of our incredible DTR Village, we were able to say YES to these two sweet puppies. They deserved a chance. They deserved to know love, safety, and kindness after humans had already failed them.

Sadly, both puppies began taking a turn for the worse, and Hercules was the first to become critical. We quickly authorized an increased level of care and did everything possible to give him the best chance at beating this. Our hearts were shattered when, despite everything the amazing veterinary team did, we lost our sweet boy.

We kept our fingers and toes crossed and sent every positive thought we could Cinnamon’s way. We hoped and prayed she would pull through. Just one day later, she took a turn for the worse as well. The veterinary team fought alongside her, but her little body was simply too weak to keep fighting. 💔

This is the incredibly hard part of rescue.

We want to save them all. Our hearts are fully in the fight, and sometimes that means saying YES even when we don’t know what the outcome will be. We wanted to give Hercules and Cinnamon the chance they deserved. We just wish we could have given them more time.

We want to thank everyone who jumped in and donated when we first shared these babies. Your support allowed us to give them everything we possibly could.

With how quickly they became critically ill and the additional high-level care they needed, we incurred $7,500 in veterinary bills. We have already raised $1,000, but we still need our village to help us cover the remaining $6,500.

If you are able to donate, even a few dollars will help us get this bill paid. If you aren’t able to donate, please share. Sharing costs nothing and can help us reach someone who can.

🧡 Venmo: -town-rescue

Hercules and Cinnamon, we are heartbroken that we weren’t able to watch you grow up. But we are so incredibly lucky that you were part of the DTR Village, even for such a short time.

You mattered.
You were loved.
You were worth fighting for.

Run free, sweet babies. 💔🐾🌈

Leo!

Meet Leo! This gentleman was found stray by a rescue partner in the South and
was missing a few “parts”. He has a docked tail, is now neutered (so missing…well, you know), and Leo has three legs! Yes, Leo is a tripod but is very well acclimated to life with only one rear leg (steps? No problem!).

He is estimated to be approximately 5 years old and was listed as an Australian Shepard
mix. He arrived a bit thin with some hair loss but his full coat is in now (and he
loves baths, so that helped) and we see some possible setter type vibes but who knows?!
Leo LOVES people (note capital letters). If you are interested in an aloof dog that likes his own space, this is not your guy. However, if having a close companion that would love to be beside you, often encouraging belly rubs performing a
beetle dance, this could be a match. His hobbies include receiving pets, snacks, eating in general, enjoying some outside time, more pets and snacks.

Although Leo has had successful meets with other dogs and is not reactive to them on walks, we have found he would thrive best as an only dog in a home and frankly, after what he has likely endured during stray life, we think he deserves all the attention in a home to himself. Leo is a dog desperately excited to have a best friend (think Velcro) and home of his own (he enjoys couches).
He is housebroken, although will have some excitement pees if you don't get him out quickly enough upon your return, so we recommend all greetings be done outside, or once he has had a chance to take care of business.

Leo is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. He is also heartworm tested negative and up to date on preventatives and wellness visits.

Luna Love!
You know you are probably something very special when the good samaritans who came across some teenagers trying to sell/give you away in a park in Philly give you the name Luna Love. So they take you home to keep you safe and then reach out to Dog Town Rescue to help get you vetted and adoption ready.

Luna is an approx 5 mth old white pittie mix whose ears really have no idea which way to go. It probably doesn't matter - in Luna's case the ears are there purely for decoration anyways since she is deaf! Luna is also partially visually impaired, although our vet partners think she had pretty good vision and none of it slows her down at all. She can navigate the world as well as any other puppy we have ever met, you just might have to get a bit more creative in your ways of training and communicating with her (hand signals, touch, vibration collars, etc). If you are interested in Luna but have concerns just reach out! We LOVE these dogs who are a little differently abled and some of the best teachers on how to keep it moving forward, however you know how.

Luna is good in a crate. She is a little kangaroo and hops and jumps with excitement, so will need some training on when it is appropriate to keep all 4 of those feet on the ground. She will also need continued work with housebreaking and leash manners - she is still a typical puppy after all.

Luna absolutely LOVES other dogs and would do well with a tolerant playmate, although she could also easily be your one and only. Since she cannot hear the corrections of other dogs, she will need a patient adopter who will be vigilant in introducing her to other dogs, to make sure she doesn't overstep her boundaries. Cats are unknown at this time, but we can cat test her for an approved applicant. Although Luna is great and very social with all humans she has met, she is a jumpy puppy and may knock down very small kids accidentally.

Luna is spayed, up to date on age appropriate vaccinations and microchipped. She is also up to date on preventatives and wellness visits.

Interested in adopting Luna Love? Please fill an application out at dogtownrescue.org
Please note: An approved application and appointment are required to meet any of our dogs.

Sailor!

Sailor, at times referred to as Becky with the great hair, IYKYK, is a recent new arrival to us. She was a commercial breeder cast off, although we truly don't know why, but their loss could be your gain.
She is listed as a mini golden doodle, and one look at that great hair seems to back it up.
Our vet estimated her to be 3-5 years old, and she is approx 30 lbs.

Due to her history of being a mill type dog any prospective adopters should be prepared to introduce Sailor to living in a home as a loved pet, and all the finer things in life that come with it. She will need work on housebreaking and leash walking and just generally being a dog. The upside is you get to be right beside her for all of her exciting "firsts" and celebrate along with her!

Sailor is already a pretty outgoing dog with new people, given her history, and we think she will flourish in a new home pretty quickly. She is also great with other dogs and would love a dog friend, or could be your one and only. Cats are unknown at this time, but we can cat test her for an approved applicant.

Sailor's adoption fee includes her spay, vaccinations to date, and microchipping. She has tested negative for heartworm and tick borne diseases and is up to date on preventatives.

Interested in adopting Sailor? go fill an application out at dogtownrescue.org
Please note: An approved application and appointment are required to meet any of our dogs.
