Recognized for making a difference when every second counted.

On Tuesday evening, Upland Borough Council recognized Captain Paramedic William McCall, EMT Terry Burke, and EMT Brianna Pascale for their role in a lifesaving response to a motor vehicle crash that resulted in a cardiac arrest.

Working alongside Upland Police and Upland Fire Co. No. 1, their rapid assessment, clinical expertise, and coordinated care helped give the patient the best possible chance at survival. Through the collective efforts of all responders on scene, the patient was successfully transported to the cardiac catheterization lab and ultimately experienced a positive outcome.

This recognition reflects the strength of teamwork between EMS, law enforcement, and fire services. When agencies work together seamlessly, lives can be changed.

Congratulations to Bill, Terry, and Brianna on this well-deserved recognition, and thank you to our partners at Upland Police and Upland Fire Co. No. 1 for their role in this successful outcome.

VMSC EMS Earns American Heart Association's 2026 Mission: Lifeline EMS Gold Achievement Award

VMSC Emergency Medical Services is honored to announce it has received the American Heart Association's 2026 Mission: Lifeline EMS Gold Achievement Award, the highest level of recognition awarded to EMS agencies demonstrating excellence in the care of patients experiencing heart attacks, strokes, cardiac arrest, and other life-threatening cardiovascular emergencies.

The Gold Achievement Award recognizes EMS agencies that meet rigorous national standards for rapid assessment, treatment, and transport while delivering evidence-based care that improves patient outcomes. Gold-designated agencies represent a select group of EMS providers nationwide recognized for exceptional clinical performance, continuous quality improvement, and a commitment to saving lives.

"At VMSC, our commitment to saving lives extends far beyond responding to emergencies," said Chief Shane Wheeler, Chief Executive Officer of VMSC. "We continue to invest in innovative clinical programs, advanced training, and community education initiatives that improve outcomes for the patients we serve every day. In 2025, we became the first EMS agency serving Montgomery, Bucks, and Philadelphia Counties to carry and administer whole blood in the field, placing us among approximately 1% of EMS agencies nationwide offering this lifesaving capability. Through our Heart Safe Community initiatives, CPR and AED education programs, and ongoing advancements in cardiac and stroke care, we remain focused on strengthening every link in the chain of survival and ensuring our communities have access to the highest standard of emergency medical care when it matters most."

Those efforts are producing measurable results. In 2025, VMSC responded to 1,698 cardiac incidents, 543 stroke emergencies, and 375 cardiac arrests across its communities. Through advanced clinical protocols, continuous quality improvement, and rapid intervention, VMSC achieved a 35% return of spontaneous circulation rate among cardiac arrest patients, above national benchmarks. These results demonstrate the effectiveness of VMSC's commitment to clinical excellence and its ongoing investment in innovative, evidence-based emergency care.

Beyond emergency response, VMSC is committed to building Heart Safe Communities through CPR training, AED awareness initiatives, community outreach, and public education.

As VMSC continues to expand its clinical capabilities and community health initiatives, the organization remains focused on delivering exceptional patient care and improving outcomes for the communities it serves. This national recognition reflects the dedication of VMSC providers and staff and their commitment to ensuring every patient has access to the highest standard of emergency medical care.

๐Ÿš‘ Nearly 800 students. Countless questions. One great day in the community.

Today, our team visited William Loesche Elementary School, where K-3 students got an up-close look at our ambulances, explored the equipment we use every day, and learned more about EMS.

From โ€œHow fast does it go?โ€ to โ€œHave you ever delivered a baby?โ€ the questions kept coming all day long. Students had the opportunity to tour our ambulances, check out lifesaving equipment, and get a firsthand look at what happens behind the scenes when EMS responds to an emergency.

The energy, curiosity, and excitement from the students made for an unforgettable day, and who knows, we may have even met a few future first responders along the way.

Thank you to the students, teachers, and staff at William H. Loesche Elementary School for welcoming us. We loved spending the day with you and sharing a behind-the-scenes look at what we do every day.

The numbers only tell part of the story.

Behind every response is a patient in need, a family looking for help, and a VMSC team member ready to make a difference.

Hereโ€™s a look at what May looked like across our organization. ๐Ÿ’™

๐Ÿš‘ The next generation of EMS starts here.

Our newest EMT cohort officially began this week in Philadelphia, taking the first step toward a career centered around service, compassion, and making an impact in their communities.

Over the next 3 months, these students will train, learn, and grow through hands-on education designed to prepare them for the fast-paced realities of EMS both in the classroom and out in the field. Itโ€™s always exciting to watch a new class begin this journey and see future providers take shape.

Weโ€™re excited to follow along and cheer them on throughout the course ๐Ÿ’™

Another community day in the books โ˜€๏ธ

Today our crews were out at Towamencin Community Day providing standby coverage and spending time with the community all afternoon.

Between kids checking out the ambulances, community members stopping by to chat with crews, and perfect weather for an event, it turned into such a fun day all around.

We love getting the chance to step outside of emergency calls and connect with the people we serve every day ๐Ÿ’™
