November is a jam packed month- and we can't wait to see you around the Centers! We have a Diwali Celebration, a Veteran's Lunch, Fall Crafts, Health Education, Medicare info, Speech and Language programming, hearing aid info, a panel of experts on everything you need to know to move through this stage of life with ease, a memoir writing workshop.....AND all of the regular and recurring clubs, classes, and support groups that you know and love.

SPARK Harleysville got a jumpstart on Veterans’ Appreciation with an amazing celebratory luncheon. Thanks so much to all of the staff and volunteers who helped make the ex*****on of this day flawless! The food was amazing, the entertainment was great, and the best part of all was the company of everyone in attendance. Thanks to everyone who came out to celebrate our Veterans together.

We are so excited to welcome back our friends from Bharatiya Temple & Bharatiya Cultural Center to celebrate Diwali together. There will be performances from youth and Senior groups, as well as education and food. Please make a plan to join us!

SPARK Senior Center of Lansdale will be hosting a Red Cross Blood Drive on Wed, Nov 25th. Executive Director Liz Beil shares why this cause is so important to her:

Why do I donate blood? To pay it forward!
Thirteen years ago, I survived a traumatic brain injury. By the time I got to a medical center, I had lost a significant amount of blood. Doctors got the bleeding under control and gave me donated blood to stabilize me so that my injuries could be evaluated and treated. I know that many factors contributed to me surviving my TBI, including donated blood. I am forever grateful to those who donated the blood I received, and now that I am able, choose to donate so others can join me in saying, “Donated blood saved my life!”

Whew- what a day! Last week SPARK was honored to host the most amazing group of volunteers from Johnson & Johnson . They spent the morning working alongside our members on 3 separate service projects- including completing our entire Annual Appeal Mailing campaign, work on our ongoing sleeping mat project to create waterproof sleeping mats for unhoused folks in Philadelphia, and assembling a HUGE donation of shelf stable meal bags to our neighbors at Manna on Main Street. They helped serve lunch, deep clean our ENTIRE Center, and hosted one of the most lively Karaoke sessions that we've ever had! We all had a blast and couldn't be more thankful for this partnership and the hard work that everyone put in during their day with us.

Today we highlight the October Senior Spotlight at SPARK Lansdale.
We are so happy to have Min back after her extended trip back to China! Min has been an amazing and dedicated volunteer in our Cafe. She says, “Volunteering has given me new vitality in life, it feels like a second spring.” She was inspired to see other Seniors serving Seniors here at SPARK and wanted to join in to help out. Even though English is her second language, she has been welcomed with open arms by our volunteer team, and she feels the spirit of mutual support and friendship with all of them. Min shares that there is a Chinese saying: “Work is joyful,” and at SPARK she has truly experienced that joy. We can always count on Min to chip in when we need an extra set of hands, and to do it with a smile that comes from a truly joyful heart.
