Good Morning Race Fans! 🏁
Here to give everyone a quick update on the status of the 78th Top O' Michigan Marathon Nationals based on the high water levels we're still experiencing here in Northern Michigan!
‼📣Short Answer: THE RACE IS STILL ON! 📣‼
We are still planning as if everything is all a go. We have 51 days until the green flag drops and we are still hopeful that we will see some stabilization and drops in water levels.
Things we are aware of and are planning accordingly:
▪️ Course modifications for Sunday in the case that Crooked River does not open by August (it is still closed).
▪️ Working with local DNR representatives, local authorities, and the USCG to ensure a safe race as race date approaches.
▪️ Paying extreme attention to water levels so no aspect of our race negatively impacts the community, residences, property, etc.
▪️ We do not have a 'cancel by date' yet. The goal of a 'cancel by date' is so racers, spectators, and fans can better plan their summers and travels and hopefully get some deposits back for lodging if applicable. This potential date will be discussed next week at our club meeting and shared, if applicable, once decided upon.
Overall, our goal is always safety for ALL involved. That has always been the same and will never change.
We are not ready to throw in the towel yet! 👏
