Vineyard management is a careful balance of timing, soil health, vine growth, and fruit quality. Sometimes letting grass and vegetation grow a little longer can actually benefit the vines and the grapes they produce.

On this day in history from the Steuben County Historical Society!

On June 22, 1914, sixteen year-old Katherine Masson christened Glenn Curtiss’s flying boat “America” with Great Western champagne. “America” was designed, but not yet ready, for a transatlantic flight. But six days later Archduke Franz Ferdinand was assassinated, and suddenly the world was at war. “America” became the prototype for wartime seaplanes, engaged in scouting, bombing runs, and anti-submarine warfare. A far larger Curtiss flying boat would fly the Atlantic in 1919.

The Visitor Center will be closed today until power is restored. Due to the high winds of yesterday most of the Village is without power.

We thank the crews for working tirelessly to get the problem fixed and power back on!
