From all our staff here at the museum, we are glad to hear Tim is okay! Looks like the fuselage held up. Wishing the best and hope Tim and Thunder Jenny will live to fly another day!

Update: Sadly, there was a mishap on the lower 48 state journey for Tim Tarris in Lamar, CO on June 10th.

While a recent mishap brought an unexpected end to this chapter of the journey, we are profoundly grateful that pilot Tim Tarris survived and is in good spirits. Also, thank you to the first responders and airport personnel there in Lamar that came to the aid of Tim and Thunder Jenny.

Please keep Tim, his family, and everyone involved in your thoughts as they move forward. We look forward to seeing this remarkable spirit of aviation continue to educate and inspire future generations.

This day in history - On May 29, 1910, Glenn H. Curtiss made his famous flight from Albany to NYC in his aptly named "Albany Flyer." Today, we welcomed New York Times reporter Jesse McKinley, who is collecting background for a story for the 175th anniversary of The New York Times ... The paper covered the first-of-its-kind long-distance flight in at least four editions, one of which ran a six page story. Pictured here: Curtiss in the Albany Flyer over West Point c. 1910, the reproduction Albany Flyer at The Curtiss Museum, and Museum Educator Andre Wigley with reporter Jesse McKinley.

This day in history, 118 years ago, was the first flight of the AEA White Wing in 1908.

Designed by Frederick "Casey" Baldwin and with an engine designed by Glenn Curtiss, it was possibly the first example of tricycle landing gear on an airplane, a feature now common on aircraft today.

White Wing's controls were also remarkably modern, featuring a rudder, elevator, and ailerons. These 3 control surfaces are ubiquitous in modern aircraft.

White Wing's combination of conventional control surfaces and tricycle landing gear make it one of the most modern looking planes of aviation's pioneer era.

White Wing's first flight would be piloted by Baldwin on the 18th of May. The next day, Lt. Thomas Selfridge would fly, becoming the first airplane pilot in the US military. On the 21st, Curtiss's birthday, Glenn would make a flight of over 1000 feet. Two days later on the 23rd, White Wing would make its last flight, crashing with J.A.D. McCurdy at its controls.
