Leadership transitions are always special in Rotary, and next week we have the privilege of celebrating one outstanding leader while welcoming another.

June 26th, the Rotary Club of Half Moon Bay will honor President Kevin O'Brien as he concludes his year of service. Kevin led our club with enthusiasm, humor, and a genuine commitment to bringing people together. Throughout the year, he introduced us to an impressive lineup of speakers who informed, inspired, and challenged us to think more broadly about our community and the world around us.

One of the highlights of his year was traveling to La Paz, Mexico, where he served as Master of Ceremonies and auctioneer for a major Rotary fundraising event, strengthening international Rotary connections and service.

Fortunately for us, Kevin's talents aren't going far. He'll once again take the microphone as MC for our HMB Lobsterfest Auction on August 22, one of the club's signature events.

As we look ahead, we are welcoming Nancy Wolfberg as our new Rotary Club President. Nancy brings a passion for service, with literacy taking center stage as one of her core areas of focus. Through literacy initiatives, she hopes to expand opportunities for learning and empower individuals of all ages throughout our community.

The future of Rotary in Half Moon Bay is bright!

Rotary International has concluded its global convention in Taipei, Taiwan. The global gathering drew over 37,000 Rotary members from more than 140 countries, and featured speakers including Nobel Peace laureate Malala Yousafzai.

Rotary Club of Half Moon Bay was proud to send our district leader Mendezona Griffiths. Mitone exemplifies Rotary's spirit of service, leadership, and international connection. Her dedication to humanitarian projects, disaster relief, youth development, and global partnerships has touched lives both locally and around the world.

The 2026 Rotary International Convention brought together thousands united by a shared mission: creating lasting change through service, fellowship, and goodwill. As Rotary continues to Unite for Good, leaders like Mitone inspire us to strengthen our communities while building bridges across cultures and continents.

Rotary Club of Half Moon Bay Supports Fundación Astra

Fundación Astra’s mission is to serve some of the most vulnerable communities in the colonias from La Paz to Los Cabos, providing free health education and medical services to children and families in need.

Did you know that food preferences are formed during the earliest years of life? In many communities, children have limited exposure to vegetables, and some are unable to identify common varieties. Baja California Sur currently has the third-highest rate of childhood overweight and obesity in Mexico, making nutrition education especially important.

Fundación Astra recently hosted a highly successful benefit concert to support its programs and outreach efforts.

The organization expressed its gratitude to friends from the Rotary Club of Half Moon Bay who traveled from California to support the event: Ed Daniels, Kevin O’Brien, and Joe Brennan.

Together, we are helping build healthier futures for children and families throughout Baja California Sur.

The Rotary Club Foundation of Half Moon Bay has awarded a $4,000 grant to Coastsiders to launch Pay with Confidence: Hands-On Digital Wallet Setup for Coastside Older Adults.

This digital literacy initiative will help older adults safely navigate today's increasingly digital financial world and build confidence using modern payment tools.

This grant is funded through proceeds from our annual Magic of the Coastside Lobsterfest, supporting programs that strengthen our Coastside community. ❤️
