🐻 HELP KEEP BEARS OUT OF OUR NEIGHBORHOOD
Bears are becoming an increasing concern in our neighborhood. We are now seeing trash cans overturned and fences damaged.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) is asking residents to do everything possible to secure garbage and eliminate food sources that attract bears.
🗑️ PLEASE SECURE YOUR TRASH
The best way to keep bears away is to make sure they cannot find an easy meal.
✅ Keep trash cans inside your garage or a secure enclosure until collection day.
✅ Put cans at the curb the morning of pickup—not the night before.
✅ Make sure lids are securely closed.
✅ Never leave garbage bags or loose food outside the can.
✅ Consider a bear-resistant trash can or approved bear-resistant securing system.
🍔 DON’T GIVE BEARS A REASON TO VISIT
• Bring pet food and water bowls inside.
• Clean grills and smokers after use.
• Remove or secure bird feeders.
• Pick up fallen fruit from your yard.
• Keep compost and other food waste secured.
🐻 IF YOU SEE A BEAR
Give it plenty of space. Do not approach, feed, or attempt to chase it away.
If a bear is threatening people or property, contact the FWC Wildlife Alert Hotline: 888-404-3922.
🏡 WE ALL NEED TO DO OUR PART
Bears quickly learn where they can find an easy meal. One unsecured trash can can make the entire neighborhood more attractive to bears.
Let’s work together to protect our homes, our families, and the bears by making our neighborhood BearWise!
