Emerald Coast Victim Services, Inc.

Emerald Coast Victim Services, Inc. ECVS exists to address the long-term health effects of violence & trauma. Survivors now have a place to go to get help documenting what they've gone through.

We are a nurse-led organization providing trauma-sensitive medical care, forensic education, & community support — bridging the gap between crisis response & lifelong healing. The Emerald Coast Victim Services, Inc is a 501 (c)(3) that was founded by a Nurse Practitioner. The Emerald Coast Victim Services is a sexual assault program that launched in 2022. Here, survivors can obtain free exams tha

t document their stories, preserve legal evidence and obtain medication. The goal of the program is to provide a safe non-judgmental place where survivors can connect to trained trauma informed professionals, create partnerships, community awareness education, health promotion and disease prevention. The purpose is to collect evidence to prosecute sexual offenders to obtain justice for survivors and improve patient outcomes. Our mission is to reduce the health effects of violence and trauma. Our vision is to ensure every person in our area has access to a forensic nurse with the skills, resources, and training to provide trauma informed care to reduce the health impacts of violence and trauma. Our healthcare professionals are trained extensively to deliver compassionate care while performing forensic exams. Please know, these exams are performed as a precaution; this way survivors can choose to report to law enforcement in their own time. It is apparent that this overwhelming need has been here for years, and did not exist. Programs like this are the epitome of victim centered care and it is long overdue in our area. This program will also connect survivors to various other services. Continuing education of our nurses will maintain the critical skills needed to perform a detailed forensic exam. Community outreach is imperative to continue our mission to support survivors of sexual assault. Principle's:
- Respect & tolerance
- Diversity enables us to reach communities and families with greater impact
- Recognize systemic privilege and oppression exist in our society
- Committed to advocating for change
- Utilize advocacy and policy platforms to bring awareness of systemic justice
- Create programs using our awareness of cultural differences

Emerald Coast Victim Services has now become a Narcan distribution center. We have provided a significant amount of Narcan at various events we have attended, which made it clear that becoming a distributor was a necessary step.

Narcan saves lives — and having it available in the community matters.

This is about access, prevention, and being prepared to respond when someone’s life may depend on it. No shame. No judgment. Just a tool that can give someone another chance.

Whether you need it for your home, workplace, outreach bag, car, or “just in case,” ECVS can help connect you with Narcan.

Because community care means showing up before the crisis becomes a tragedy.

"At least they're safe now."

It's a comforting thought....

It's also often only part of the story....

What if that's where healing begins?

Research has shown that the effects of violence and trauma can extend far beyond the immediate crisis—impacting physical health, mental health, sleep, relationships, and overall well-being.

That's why Emerald Coast Victim Services exists.

Not simply to respond to violence.

To help reduce its long-term health effects through education, advocacy, prevention, forensic nursing, medical support, and community collaboration.

Because what comes next matters too.

As Father’s Day comes to a close, we want to hold space for the many ways this day may feel.

Some are celebrating.
grieving.
remembering.
healing from relationships that were painful, absent, complicated, or unsafe.
And some are honoring the father figures who stepped in when they were needed most.🩵

However this day landed for you, we hope you know this:

You are allowed to feel more than one thing.
You are allowed to miss what was good.
You are allowed to grieve what was not.
You are allowed to choose peace, even when the day feels heavy.🩵

Tonight, we are thinking of every survivor, every family, every caregiver, and every person doing the quiet work of healing.

May the evening bring gentleness.
May rest come easier.
May hope still find you here.

With hope and empowerment

One of the most common misconceptions is that they're only about evidence collection.

In reality, medical forensic care is designed to address a range of healthcare needs while helping individuals understand their options.

One of my favorite moments from PensaPride happened right at our table.

This sweet gentleman stopped by and was drawn to the steel tongue drum we had with us. There were no instructions, no lessons, and no expectations. He simply sat down and started exploring.

Watching him listen, test different notes, and figure it out as he went was such a beautiful reminder of what happens when we give ourselves permission to be curious.

Within minutes, he was creating his own rhythm and completely immersed in the experience. You could see the joy on his face as his confidence grew with every note.

As someone who spends much of my time focused on healing, advocacy, and supporting others through difficult moments, I love witnessing these simple moments of connection. Sometimes wellness isn't another appointment, another task, or another thing to accomplish. Sometimes it's being present, trying something new, and discovering something you didn't know was inside of you.

Thank you for sharing this moment with us. 🩵

These are the moments that remind me why community matters.

*Shared with his permission. He consented and enjoyed our filming his progress. 🫶 Fun to see.
