We are a Regional Network of Grassroots Advocates, protecting everyones right to Swimmable, Fishable, Drinkable Water.
We are a proud member of the International WATERKEEPER® Alliance, the largest and fastest growing nonprofit solely focused on clean water, with nearly 300 members in 33 countries, on 6 continents. Our mission is simple:
Swimmable, Drinkable, Fishable Water for Everyone. The Great Plains are a massive Bio-Geographic Region with thousands of miles of streams, rivers, and lakes. They face a myriad of threats and their protection requires a plan of commensurate scale and scope. That is the role of the Great Plains WATERKEEPER® Network. Throughout the Central and Western United States, most people are well aware of the lack of water. We have all heard dire forecasts as to the future of water and how it will be impacted by continued growth. This is a serious problem that must be addressed now. Yes, we are concerned with the quantity of water, but we are also concerned with water quality. Not only are our waters disappearing, but they are being degraded on countless fronts. We fight pollution because water doesn’t do much good if, when you have it, it poisons everything that depends on it. The Great Plains WATERKEEPER® Network is a regionally coordinated coalition of local, grassroots WATERKEEPERs® who advocate for clean water and hold polluters accountable. What is a WATERKEEPER®
They are full time, paid, dedicated champions in their local communities and the watchdogs for their waters. They patrol their waters—testing, advocating, educating, protecting and speaking out—to ensure drinkable, fishable, swimmable water for their community. From our headquarters in Denver Colorado, we offer each WATERKEEPER® extensive support, tools, standardized testing equipment, procedures, analytics, communications platforms and the administrative necessary support for them to succeed. As a coordinated network we proactively track larger regional trends and maintain a clear picture of environmental challenges.
